How antisocial is a trampoline?

KylieWasHere · 09/08/2022 15:54

We’ve just completed on a house. It’s our first garden ever, and we’re very excited the kids will have space to play outside. My DH is looking at trampolines, but I wonder if it’s too soon to get one? Would the neighbours be annoyed? The trampoline nets are usually quite tall so I’m guessing neighbours would be able to see them from their gardens. The garden is pretty big (around 10m wide and 30m long) so it wont be too near their houses.

we want to have a good relationship with the neighbours!

It wouldn't bother me as long as it wasn't pushed right up to the boundary, and as long as you're kids aren't screaming from 6am

Littlegoth · 09/08/2022 16:07

I wouldn’t be annoyed - it’s one of the things we look at though as we are house hunting - can we see any on Google maps 😂

Mosaic123 · 09/08/2022 16:08

Can you buy the kind that are sunken into the ground?

JudithHarper · 09/08/2022 16:08

Get a trampoline, put it towards the bottom of your garden and let rip.

As above, no early or late screaming though.

Discovereads · 09/08/2022 16:09

They’re not antisocial at all. We had one for our DC. You just need to have some safety rules in place- ie only one child at a time bouncing. Safety net around it. No drinks/food. Etc.

Ihatethenewlook · 09/08/2022 16:09

I’ve got a 10 foot one. Neighbours couldn’t give a shiny shite. They’ve got a 12 foot one. Other side is deaf and never goes out the back anyway

MoodyTwo · 09/08/2022 16:09

I wouldn't be annoyed so long as it was away from the fence nearest the house
(Wouldn't want them jumping and seeing em in my kitchen on a morning)
However crack on ! I love hearing children have fun in the gardens

ClaudiaWankleman · 09/08/2022 16:09

It's not anti social.

MrsMontyD · 09/08/2022 17:46

Our neighbours had one, thankfully just for one summer, and their dc couldn't bounce without shrieking, literally shrieking for hours at a time.

hotfroth · 09/08/2022 17:54

It is the endless squeaking and creaking of the frame and springs that's the most bothersome, imo.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 09/08/2022 17:54

We have one and we're on and end. Next door and next door but 1 have one and all the kids come in and out of the gardens anyway. They're only anti social if they're on it at midnight

Sandysandwich · 09/08/2022 17:59

I think is fine, unless your children are very screamy on trampolines, then its a bit annoying.
Just the bouncing and laughing wouldn't bother me

SushiShopSearch · 09/08/2022 18:03

Shrieking kids...no thank you.

Minecraftatemychild · 09/08/2022 18:14

Pretty much every garden on our street has one

It’s fine unless they shout a lot - which they’d probably do with or without the trampoline!

tootiredtobother · 09/08/2022 18:16

Very, hate them so much

They're really not antisocial

How high are the boundaries? My previous neighbours had one and we had 3' fences, so I had to deal with their kid staring at me whenever he used it while I was in the garden. I couldn't afford to replace the fences and trees/shrubs would have taken ages to grow.

In general I don't mind them though, like others have said I like hearing kids having fun outdoors, plus it's good exercise. Just no shrieking or screaming!

tootiredtobother · 09/08/2022 18:34

jeez they are, the boing squeek of springs, screaming kids doing a count down of jumps, heads appearing over the fence, balls being batted over whilst bouncing,

I think you're the antisocial one if you have a problem with kids playing

chilliesandspices · 09/08/2022 18:37

I have no issues with the one next door. We get occasional shrieking in the middle of the day but the kids just sound like they're having fun. It's kind of sweet. I've never been woken by it or bothered by the noise when I'm out in the garden.

Jellybean23 · 09/08/2022 18:38

There are neighbours ... and neighbours. We aren't at all bothered by the noise and trampoline bouncing that goes on next door but the neighbours on the other side of their garden can't stand it and have moaned.

NameChange30 · 09/08/2022 18:54

I recently got my kids a trampoline. It has elastic instead of metal springs, bought mainly because they're safer (apparently) but also because they're quieter - less annoying for us and the neighbours. Could be worth considering (ours is a Plum one).

We also have a pretty long garden, backing onto other gardens, and it's at the end. Plus we don't let them go on it and make noise at antisocial hours. Even during normal hours I'll monitor the noise levels, obviously laughing and excitement is fine but I won't have lots of shrieking.

I would say this because I have one but I think it's fine as long as you don't take the piss.

Nw22 · 09/08/2022 18:57

2 of our neighbours have them. They are very anti social as they squeak so much and apparently can’t be used without screaming. When we move house if I saw one in the next garden I wouldn’t buy the house

LemonApplePeach · 09/08/2022 22:03

How antisocial? V E R Y!!! If you put one in, make sure it's right in the centre of your garden so as to cause your neighbours the least pain. No one want's to see your delightful offspring bobbing above the fence line.
