Does anyone have an indication of how much blinds will cost for a conservatory please? It would need to be supply and fit and it's approximately 5m x 5m.

Is this just a single blind for one window, or is it for a roof?

happinesslovescompany · 09/08/2022 13:45

You need to measure each window individually. Price varies depending on the type of blind and where you are in the country

Roof blinds are substantially more than standard window blinds if they're irregular shapes

Thanks for replying. It would be the whole thing, roof and windows. There are two large windows and a full glass roof.
I literally have no clue on costs and I'm scared to ask for a formal quote!

It's the roof blinds that are horrendously expensive. The side windows will just be a standard price but the roof will have loads of angles. We have a blinds business but didn't do roof blinds because of the cost. We made our own in a deckchair fabric which were suspended on cup hooks just for the Summer each year. I'll find a pic so you can see what I mean.

This is how we did it.

My husband said roof blinds upwards of £1k and side blinds around £500 as a starting estimate

What a brilliant idea! Thank you for the information. I don't think I'm creative enough to do anything myself but it's great to have a ball park figure.

Honestly they were so easy to do. We were lucky that we already had some struts across the room. Version 1 was 3m cut fabric lengths with a small hem each end and battens poked through. We then screwed cup hooks onto the battens which hooked over the poles. We replaced them a couple of years ago with version 2, we bought a full roll of striped fabric from Ikea, chopped it in half and stapled it up then rearranged it so it looked even.

When our build was completed we walked into it and knew we had to do something - the heat and glare were just too much, but we absolutely loved it apart from 6 weeks in the Summer. The light from a glass roof is simply beautiful, just need to be able to shade yourself for those few summer weeks!

The image below gives you a better view of the way this hangs. It's something you could get anyone who can sew to make for you - just need to work out how to fit it :)

We had exact same issue with our new conservatory so last year we did two things Roof - bought the rectangular sun shade sail and it goes up in summer. It had to be tied of course with guy ropes.
side windows - bought stick on IKEA pleated blinds that can be held by clips. They look pretty.
All done under £100.

ThePoetsWife · 14/08/2022 07:10

Get some sail blinds - only £ 25-35 from Amazon. I use these in for a a couple of months each summer and then wash and put away.

ThePoetsWife · 14/08/2022 07:11

And for the side windows we have roller blinds.

Gaveitall · 14/08/2022 07:21

I tried putting up sticky cup hooks onto the UPVC conservatory frame then sewed rings onto a huge bed sheet to hook onto the hooks.
However the plastic hooks keep falling down bringing the sheet with it! Hahaaa.

I think the heat softens the adhesive so I need to think of better quality hooks/better glue on them. Any ideas welcome!

I don’t really want to drill hooks into the UPVC frame (defeats the object of double glazing) so I’m following this thread with interest for ideas.

Was quoted £2500+ for sail blinds which I thought an absolute rip off so I’m looking for DIY alternatives!

ThePoetsWife · 14/08/2022 07:48

DIY is so much cheaper - you could use extra sticky cups to help spread the load. The ones from Amazon are light anyway.
