Side access

Would you buy a big house with a big garden (150ft) without a side access? It is end of terrace but the wall separates the house from the park so no access through that side and could be a security gamble to put one there and looks like it would be more of a pain than to go through the house with rubbish and the likes. It doesn’t look possible either for builders or the likes to use the park to enter to do building works if needed. No real access for vehicles and even if there was I am not sure the council would agree.

I like the house but for the price (over £1m) I am out off and worried that no one would buy it if we try to sell in the future.

I might not have bought it as side access was high on my list of priorities when I bought my current house, as the lack of it was a pain previously. However, if it had ticked all my other boxes I would have definitely given it serious consideration.

Is it a bit cheaper than equivalent sized semis with side access? If so, then the lack of side access might well have been priced in. If you're interested in it, then other people will be in the future as well.

On a practical point, will you need to have a gardener who will be trekking through the house, and can you access the back via a garage or utility room rather than through a main room?

It is a total pain not having side access. Getting garden waste out, getting gardening/DIY supplies in, access for builders/trades (not just for things like building an extension but for regular stuff like if you get a blocked drain and they need to run hoses down the drains, that then has to go through your house and damage your property instead of going in via a side entrance!). Plus with dogs or kids, the option to have them go round the side and hose off dirty wellies/paws before coming in the house is so helpful!

We don't have side access and I wish we did so personally, I would really think about whether this is the right house.

my house has no side access but there is level access through the house on wooden floors (not carpet) so it is possible to wheel a trolley load of garden stuff through. And I have done that for 20+ sacks of earth. it is not great, but in the area I'm in (London zone2) it is rare to get any kind of garden so I don't mind compromising on the access.

If you are in an area where 90% of houses would have side access, then the lack of it is a bigger limitation.
