Tiling myself?

Doing the work, rather - not applying tiles to my skin.

We have a small splashback in the bathroom that's grim and needs updating. I've never tiled before - is it a terrible idea to try doing it myself? Getting someone in for such a small job is proving impossible, hence my pondering.

What would you do?

A tip is to use a notched trowel, you can get ones with different size notches on.
if I’m tiling a wall I spread it on each tile and stick it on the wall one at a time but if I’m tiling a floor I prefer to spread it on the floor then stick the tiles down on to it.

it’s a lot slower putting adhesive on each tile but I find it easier for walls.

These are the last ones I did. Same as you above a sink.

That looks excellent, @Crazymadchickenlady !

I've definitely caught the bug and feel pleased with my efforts. Tiles have stayed on the wall today since application, tomorrow I will grout and seal. 🤞

Name change fail. 😬

@UnboxedThoughts we need a pic of the final result !

Just grout first and give it time to dry before any sealing.

This morning one tile fell off. 😭

No damage done, just didn't use enough adhesive. This pic doesn't show it finished, we'll be adding sealant around the edges rather than a plastic beading, but on the whole I am pleased.

I’ve retiled 6 bathrooms and 2 kitchens in the last decade including slate floors laid diagonally. Long as you Have some sense of geometry you’ll be fine.
