Who should I employ for this bedroom project?

No idea where to start...

I have a cramped Victorian bedroom with laminate over the awful floorboards, dodgy Artex style plaster and no storage. I would like to take the laminate out, replace the floorboards, redo the plaster from scratch and do built in storage with more plugs. Who do I ask??

You need a carpenter, a plasterer and an electrician, a decorator and possibly asbestos removal company. First you need to get the plaster tested for asbestos. This can be done easily by taking a small sample and sending off for testing. Google it and you will find loads of places offering testing for about £20. Hopefully there is no asbestos and you can get the electrician in to add more sockets. then the plasterer to skim the walls or if they are really bad, to knock back to brick and replaster completely. While the plaster is drying you can get a carpenter in to do the fitted cupboards and sort the floor out. Finally get a decorator to paint everything.

If you're painting I would do that before you have the cupboards and floor sorted.

Quote for the wardrobe, if you want naice with lights inside.

Book an electrician to add sockets and lighting etc.
Book a plumber to move pipes and come back and fit radiator at a later date.

A week after electrician book a plaster to do the walls and ceiling.

A week after plaster book a painter/decorator to paint

A week after painting book floor fitter who will fit the flooring.

Get the electrician in first to channel the walls/floor & do the first fix (socket boxes). Then get a decent handy man who can plaster to skim the artex & rip out the old floor & lay new. Then electrican back to do 2nd fix (surface plates). You might need a carpenter to build-in storage if you want something with a bit more finesse.

Right I think I'm going to ring a building company - I am not sure which type. I am frightened to manage this myself, all the more after reading these! Thank you though.

Building companies are very busy with extensions so you will struggle to get a quote. You could try an independent kitchen fitter as they will have to deal with similar trades for kitchen fitting.

Yeah I agree you’re better going with a builder
who can organise the lot for you. Read reviews online thoroughly. It’s not a big job though honestly- all basic stuff for trades people.
