Hi all,

mortgage accepted, searches sent off for now waiting game with solicitors till we have an update - my brother is gifting me some funds towards deposit - gifted forms done approved and checks done, does he now transfer the money into my account as when paying the solicitor it has to come out of one account being mine, or do i transfer it only when we know we are exchanging etc? or do I call solicitors and ask them when he is to tfr it to me, all new to me didn't want to do anything without knowing for sure first

thank you

This. Except do it in writing.

I would just have him transfer it to you. We had a gifted deposit. It was transferred before we even made an offer. As long as there is a transparent paper trail to show where it’s come from, that’s all you need.

Sorry for the hijack.

Anyone have advice how I can pass the anti-money laundering checks for a gifted deposit. I'm struggling to provide what the lawyer is asking for.

Filled out the forms and provided ID etc but lawyer has come back and asked to see bank statements showing my payments into the account from which I'm gifting the deposit (money laundering checks). Problem is it is a cash isa which I started at least 20 years ago. Since then I have moved the ISA around at least 3 times (to get better rates). Plus I've had current accounts from 3 different banks. I've added (and subtracted) money from the ISA in this period (the cash ISA is my "tits up" money). Do I need to prove that every penny I am gifting comes from my current account and thus my salary As that is how I said I was funding.

I do have other money which is more easily traceable but it is more tied up and I'm loathe to sell investments/loose interest.

Any ideas?
