Hello everyone,
we just had our new kitchen fitted with skirting boards instead of plinths. It looks amazing! However, we just realised a dishwasher doesn't open fully and if forced it dislocates the skirting board!!! Any advice please???? So sad we may need to remove the skirting board where the dishwasher is. Our joiner cannot see any other solution 😭😭😭

I wonder if anyone had a shaker kitchen fitted with skirting boards instead of plinths and how did they get a dishwasher open fully without hitting the skirting board?

You need a notch cut out of the skirting board!!! If you get a leak it will be fun!

Would something like this work?

Watch the video, it moves the door cover panel to avoid a notch in the plinth

I have nothing helpful to add except that that your new kitchen is gorgeous! Can I ask where it's from?

Thank you! We got it from DIY KITCHENS. It's Malton range in Dove Gray. We have chosen this company because they are cheaper then Wrens (3k cheaper) and Howdens (4k cheaper) but offer the same quality. The downside is you have to design it yourself using their planning tool which I did find easy and you have to find a joiner/fitter who will fit it. Diy kitchens do not offer this service.

We have the same type of skirting board plinths in our kitchen. The dishwasher is just raised a small amount on a board to give it clearance over the plinth. The kitchen's been in nearly six years and no problems with having those plinths at all.

We couldn’t raise our dishwasher or it wouldn’t fit under the worktop. I’m not sure raising them is always workable.

@AnnaWlod did you find a solution to this. We will be doing the same thing and hadn’t thought of this!
