Bramley as a mixed race couple

Hi all.

Wondering if you can help. Me, MY DH and DS are looking to buy our first house, moving from Wakefield and are looking to move to Leeds near where DH has his job and buy our first home.

Due to our budget, we are looking at Bramley. Weve found a property that we are going to view on Aston Terrace, and we have a query in regards to whether it would be a safe home for us for a couple of years before moving on. DH and DS have experienced racism in the past, and he's very scared that he'll experience something like that again, especially after some of the horror stories he has been told!

Any sort of advice and info would be much appreciated.

@garlictwist Woodhouse is a terrible area.

The areas I would consider are oakwood, Roundhay, Crossgates and the Fearnville area is very lovely my brother lives around there. I think the better areas in Leeds will be more £££

Rothwell or Robin Hood are further out but better areas and can be cheaper . Used to be very white but increasingly more mixed

a bit of an outlier is manston on far edge of Seacroft which is both socially and ethnically mixed

Like a PP has said, the astons are alright but personally I think there are nicer areas to live.
Could you visit for a couple of days to drive round the areas?

In that price bracket, I would consider Wortley, it's less transient than Armley. Or Farsley or Pudsey perhaps?

I am not sure OP is coming back, however suggesting properties in East Leeds is not going to be helpful for people who want to be close to work in West Leeds. I think it is also unlikely that someone with a budget to buy a house on the Astons will be able to include Roundhay within their search.

However, I moved to Leeds in 2001 and bought a stunning old terrace in Armley which I managed to make enough money from to move to a more desirable area in (outer) west Leeds. I have since had a family, made a career, survived being widowed with a huge friendship group and remain very happy. That old Armley terrace was a springboard and I was very happy (and we are a mixed race family) living there. According to mumsnet, Leeds is Horsforth, Roundhay, Chapel Allerton etc. Lots of us live and have survived elsewhere and actually like the less sanitised areas of the city.

@willstarttomorrow I agree. I think I said similar too. If that's the case I would stay in Wakefield rather than some other less desirable places in Leeds.
