Would you buy this property?

I saw this property online whilst searching for my first home last year. I was very confused by some of the pictures back then as I could not see 'the house'. The pictures have now been updated and make more sense.

It has been up for sale for nearly a year and the price has been reducd by £35,000, and re-listed on Zoopla. Even with the reduction, I still feel like the chances of this undeniably lovely home(inside) selling, are miniscule, as it is so unconventional. The right buyer would be hard to find. I wonder what the homeowner was thinking when building it. Somewhat admirable that they went against the grain though.

What do you all think?

It makes me feel claustrophobic just looking at the pictures.

Mooserp · 24/07/2022 08:16

It did look suspiciously windowless in the photos. I couldn't live there, would be very depressing.

OhMerde · 24/07/2022 08:22

Are you a mole?

Hoppinggreen · 24/07/2022 08:23

It’s awful.

ShirleyPhallus · 24/07/2022 08:25

It’s awful, it would feel claustrophobic and so dark.

I suppose good in the event of a nuclear war though

Sexismdoesntrule · 24/07/2022 08:27

I think an architect lives there who loves outside space. That house has created the absolute maximum amount of outside space, which, is a premium in London.

Genius - sadly not everyone appreciates genius.

Ireolu · 24/07/2022 08:28

I don't think it's that bad and it's a lot of space for the money for the area. Wonder how much the current owners bought it for...At the right price it could work for someone.

LooksLikeGoodFun · 24/07/2022 08:29

It is not a house though, it is a bunker! Will suit anyone preparing for a WW3 I guess. Big garden is a plus

Trulyweird1 · 24/07/2022 08:29

Why is it underground? There are normal houses in the garden pictures so I would want to understand why it was built underground - eco friendly? Insulation? Architects vanity project ?
It looks too dark for me.
I think the garden looks crap with the light-wells and fenced off areas, but it’s a decent amount of space for what I assume is a reasonable price in the area.

LaurieFairyCake · 24/07/2022 08:29

It's lovely - a good price for almost 2000 square feet

Slowslowlavaflow · 24/07/2022 08:29

@KangarooKenny @Mooserp

I completely agree with you both. What would be the motivation to build such a home?

@OhMerde

Haha. Not me. I like my homes two stories above ground. This homeowner maybe?

I would worry bout claustrophobia and depression. Imagine the wonder - imagine what lockdown in the winter was like there.

not for me - I need lots a natural light and want to look out a window.

londonlass71 · 24/07/2022 08:30

Someone will buy this. An arty type. It only takes one person to walk through the door that likes it.

Only it's not really London- it's a bunker just off the M1!

I would imagine insurances etc would be expensive, any structural work it needs, plumbing etc would be a pain.

This is the same postcode and with a bit of work would be a lovely home that's probably a better investment in the longer term.

KhaleesiOfChaos · 24/07/2022 08:31

I'd hate it as I love bright sunny spaces but it makes good use of the footprint of the space.

Totally puzzled why they'd go to all the effort of this and then have a really dull, unloved looking garden!

RainbowSlaw · 24/07/2022 08:31

Missing the point I know... but am I the only one baffled by where the 4th bedroom is supposed to be?

squashyhat · 24/07/2022 08:32

If the selling point is supposed to be the outside space then they need to make more of it. It looks like a badly cut field.

RainbowSlaw · 24/07/2022 08:32

Oh I see now - that tiny triangle box at the front. As you were.

Bushey is in Herts, not London

The whole thing looks cheap to me- cheap laminate, standard white plastic plug sockets etc.

portinahurry · 24/07/2022 08:35

It's just a basement with no house.

Slowslowlavaflow · 24/07/2022 08:36

@londonlass71 I think the same. The only thing is, that arty type might be hard to come by.

Those who say it is lovely or a genius idea, would you live in it though? And more importantly, would you buy it?

Isn't the way to make most of space to build up? Rather than underground? Townhouses instead of bungalows?

OP posts:
Twiglets1 · 24/07/2022 08:39

I don’t like it. Not enough natural light

londonlass71 · 24/07/2022 08:39

@slowslowlavaflow I wonder if the whole underground thing was something to do with planning permission. I wouldn't live there simply because I would want to be closer to London and you can get fixer uppers in my area for a similar price. I'd chose to do something up slowly.

KhaleesiOfChaos · 24/07/2022 08:39

@prepared101 I meant good use of the footprint of the space ie they've created a 3 bed house with a good sized garden on the same size plot of land that would usually mean the garden would need to be much smaller.

I didn't look at the fixtures and fittings too closely Smile
