For kitchen…

what would look nicest for worktops with cream gloss units and a walnut wood floor?

Suggestions on colour/materials?

‘Rust’ laminate, it’s beautiful.

I'd go for a light coloured granite or marble! Walnut floors are nice and dark, cream gloss cabinets will lighten it and I think a complimentary light worktop would work really well. Then again I'm an absolute sucker for that type of worktop so 😂

Ooh rust looks interesting! It would complement the floor but not be too matchy matchy. I’m not sure I love it though.

I like the idea of a lighter too too but what colour? I feel like cream units aren’t going to go with any coloured worktops other than dark :(

Cream ends up looking dated. DD had the ones in her flat removed. They were with black granite.

Colours like pale grey (almost silver) is great and DD has that with a pale veined worktop. White always looks crisp and we have “cashmere” in a flat. Instead of cream you could have a slightly warmer white? I do think anything with a yellow tone is difficult to match. Bluer tones are easier.

@TizerorFizz interesting about cream dating…I thought it would be more classic and grey/colours more liable to dating. When I put in this kitchen in want it to be the last kitchen I put in so very keen not to go for anything that will look very dated! cashmere my friend has and it’s perfectly pleasant but I don’t like it enough to buy it and look at it for the next 20 years. You might be on to something with white….I’ll have a google for some inspiration

I agree about cream gloss dating. We had it for 14 years and it went a bit yellow over time. Just had our kitchen redone and went for porcelain this time. It's not quite white. We've teamed it with a quartz worktop.

@nokitchen
Thats what happened in DDs kitchen. Hers was around 18 years old but it looked old. It was cream gloss. It didn’t reflect the light well either. Her very pale grey looks immaculate and has lighted the kitchen area. White or pale grey won’t really date. Much easier to have a light worktop too. DDs kitchen is a gloss from John Lewis (dept store).

@nokitchen what colour quartz did you go for?

I chose calcatta gold. It's absolutely gorgeous.

OldYork · 23/07/2022 20:10

@nokitchen that is lovely…do you have it running up as a splash back too? I’ve seen a few of the veined quartz worktops run up as a splash back and I’m loving that look!

No, we went with a very pale grey tile for the splashback. Although carrying it on as a splash back is gorgeous too
