Dead and dying wasps - it's vile!

We recently discovered we had a wasps nest in a wall cavity. We came back from holiday to a very strange sound within the wall - sounded like rainfall. We were about to call a plumber until I checked outside the house and could clearly see dozens of wasps flying in and out of a space between the roof and gutter. 🤢

At first we were tempted to leave it as I knew they'd die off in the autumn anyway but then wasps started getting into the house and two of us got stung so yeah, had to call pest control.

Within 30 minutes of treatment the noise had stopped but now, about a week later, we're still being plagued indoors by dead and dying wasps. I went into the spare bedroom and there were about 20 on the floor/windowsill. Hoovered them all up but then two days later, another 20-30. Hoovered them up and yet now there's more. They're all sluggish (if not dead) so they have definitely been poisoned and I have no idea how they're getting in, but pest control tells me wasps can squeeze out of the smallest of spaces. He says this is normal because they're fleeing the treatment. It's really giving us the ick!!

Is there anything else we can do? Maybe a spray in the bedroom to prevent them getting in? Not sure what to do!

I have no ideas how to help but I’m here for the moral support…I don’t know how you are able to stay in the house! I’d have been checking into a hotel for a week! Terrified of the little blighters!

Thank you for your empathy! One week on, it's still happening. We must have hoovered up in excess of 200 dead or dying wasps. We've asked Pest Control to come out again on Monday. 🤢

Yuck. We had a nest a few years ago in the same place as you, but fortunately the wasps weren't getting into the house so we just left it. The wasps eventually died/buggered off in November when it turned cold. Touch wood, we have never had another nest - apparently the presence of an old nest discourages new wasps setting up camp - so hopefully once you've vanquished this lot you should be free of them.

Tbf you've sentenced hundreds, if not thousands of them to a slow and painful death so if your end of the deal involves nothing more than whizzing the vacuum round a couple of times a day, I think you've got scant reason to complain.

Imknackeredzzz · 23/07/2022 23:37

Oh for gods sake! Who gives a shit about wasps! Fuck me 🙄

Imknackeredzzz · 23/07/2022 23:38

@JustAsking90 sorry but really who in their right mind worries about the suffering of wasps!!! Jesus wept

It’s called treating all beings with kindness ! Try it - !!! Some people have no empathy -

The wasps aren't showing much empathy when they're stinging the OP.

Imknackeredzzz · 23/07/2022 23:41

@tillyandmilly. No thanks- I really am not going to worry about treating wasps with kindness! they basically exist to sting people! That is literally their only purpose. Mumsnet is so bizarre 😂

CorvusPurpureus · 23/07/2022 23:46

I wouldn't be that sad about the wasps, although I'm a softy who wouldn't swat one if avoidable.

But y'know, you asked the exterminator to poison them, & so now you do have dead/dying wasps to hoover up. They weren't ever going to vaporise into outer space@

5zeds · 23/07/2022 23:46

Top tip, use a dustpan and brush not the hoover. They mush inside in cracks/tight corners and then smell and have to be removed.

At least it wasn’t rats.

CorvusPurpureus · 23/07/2022 23:53

Oh & yes, always dustpan & brush insect plagues!

I live overseas where hoovers aren't really a thing, but one really fat cockroach can definitely upset a Henry. I found this out the hard way.

Sorry Henry & also sorry Mr Roach. It was not a dignified arrangement for either party.

Fuck my life this is hilarious. We had a wasps nest in our loft and the bastards would come down through the ceiling into our baby’s room. In droves. We never got pest control in as blocking the gaps was enough, but I wouldn’t bloody judge anyone that did.
