Can I have a built under double oven and induction hob?

We’re planning a new kitchen and doing the rounds of designers (with a view to probably going with DIY Kitchens as the others don’t compare in terms of either price or quality so far). I’m finding the answers as to what we “can have” are varying from one store to another.

We are keen to have a double oven as we do a fair amount of cooking with both oven and grill. We currently have a gas hob and built under double oven. We were keen to change this to an induction hob and built under double oven. Magnet didn’t bat an eyelid at this but Howdens have said this isn’t an option with an induction hob and we can only have two single ovens side by side. Which is obviously going to lose a huge amount of storage space!

Has anyone else been told this? I’m trying to work out if it’s a safety thing and Magnet slipped up, or if it’s a Howdens thing.

We can only really have two full height units in this kitchen without compromising hugely on work surface. One has to be the fridge-freezer (as there is nowhere else for it to go, and nowhere to store an additional freezer and have an under-counter fridge). I’d wanted the other to be a larder but am thinking we may have to house the oven(s) here.

I would prefer not to move the hob as the only other place for it would be on a breakfast bar or peninsula and I want that to be clear for work surface and/or kids able to sit there while I cook.

The kitchen is going in a new extension so there’s a certain amount of flexibility at this stage as to what goes where.

Would welcome views from anyone with an induction hob and double oven(s), in whatever format!

Yes you can, a built under double oven is slightly shorter than an eye level oven, I know because I made the mistake of buying a built under oven instead of an eye level one & had to have an extra drawer in the appliance tower to fill the gap.

Howdens don’t make a double oven carcass. Or at least didn’t when I enquired last year. They suggest rows of singles and recommend ideally fitting them at head height so no bending.

There aren’t many integrated double ovens available to buy whereas when I last purchased there was a vast range. People now do walls of multi ovens 😂

I would steer clear of Howdens unless you have a very good and very honest fitter.

You don't need a carcass with a double under oven. It sits on its own feet and there's a blanking piece put in. (That's what they did for me)

I haven't found my main oven small or at least not any smaller than the single oven I used to have. The top oven is definitely smaller but I only really use it at Christmas so I am happy enough with it

If you want a good size double oven in a single cabinet space how about a push in cooker? Hotpoint

Thank you everyone - this is really helpful.

@Gribbit987 , thanks for your view on Howdens - I have concerns about them and don’t like the whole set-up really. I’ve gone to them and Magnet to attempt to come up with designs and am going to price match against DIY Kitchens. Magnet, despite allegedly having a sale, seem to want an insane amount of money. I’m struggling slightly with the planner on DIY Kitchens but that may be my device.
