Cat Proof sofas?

I woud like to replace the sofas in my living room, and looking for advice about fabric/material. One of my cats loves to destroy furniture by clas sharpening. I do try to correct them if I catch them actually doing it, but obviously I am not around all the time.
I am loathe to spend money on a new sofa if it will end up being damaged.
I really dislike leather- any other solutions?

One of my 2 is a scratchy bastard.

Velvet is your friend. Or go for a very tight weave flat linen that they can’t get the claws into.

Another option is microsuede. It's not as common as velvet at the moment but I'm on the hunt myself for a sofa in this fabric. We had one a few years ago and the cats got nowhere with it.

This is the front runner right now: www.wayfair.co.uk/furniture/pdp/isabelline-kamille-corner-sofa-kris-sysz1061.html

Mine is a kind of velour and he bloody loves it

Mine doesn't touch leather but as a pp said, she pretends to claw my fabric chair while staring at me!

Our leather sofa is being scratched by our young cat. We did put sticky plastic mats on each arm, which have helped, but hasn't stopped her from pulling herself up the back of the sofa though and sitting on the top.

I feel there is a gap in the marketing on sofas to pet owners. Anyone found a sofa resistant to muddy dogs?

We went for fabric with no loose threads/ no visible weave. I suppose velvet-like in terms of smoothness. We immediately put on a plastic furniture protector held in by pins (not sticky stuff as we had that in the stairs and it just looks dirty) - On the arms and corners and legs. It stopped them ever trying. My mum got the same, get cat was very scratchy with the old sofa, hasn’t tried the new one.

Just stick something on the sofa where she scratches. I stuck clear film sheets on my sofa where the cat was scratching. You can get thick double sided sticky tape that also helps. Cats hate sticky surfaces. It works as they no longer try to scratch.

Our cat doesn't touch our velvet sofas either.

I have a v naught furry terrorist (who I adore) he lives a good ole claw work out on out sofas .. they are a velvety LIME GREEN corduroy (yes it sounds completely hideous but it fits our rural home beautifully) .. other colours are available !
Not a sign of a pulled thread on it after 3 years.

Our cat has trashed our sofa so covered it in fairly hideous fleece throws - he can't get his claws into that or a very close weave chair. Instead of a scratch post, I've found he loves a really hard, line-dried towel. So I just leave one on the floor now. It mostly works.
