How much did you pay for a new bathroom? (in London)

Hello,

We need to have our bathroom renovated and have recently received a quote for the bathroom suite and installation costs from a local company in London which seems quite high! However, we're not sure whether this is just the going rate given it's 2022 and everything going on in the world.

For context - the bathroom was last renovated around 10-15 years ago so we're going for a total refresh of tiles etc, although we are keeping everything in the same place.

Thanks :)

Pre-covid £5500 all in.
2022 - £8000 for a similar size and spec in a new house.

We paid around 4k for a small bathroom.

SD25 · 19/07/2022 19:27

(4k didn't include bathroom suite)

Subbaxeo · 19/07/2022 19:28

Not in London but ours will be 9k. Tiny bathroom, everything ripped out and nice quality fittings-mid range stuff. Labour and materials about 4k, fixtures and fittings a whopping 5k which somehow added up.Our bathroom guy is brilliant-people are telling him he could earn a fortune in London as there is lots of competition but really decent people are hard to find.

Really, really depends on what level of ‘luxury’ you are hoping for.
for reference we let out flats, to replace one of their fairly standard but pleasant bathrooms we’d budget £ 2.5 to £3K all in.
we’ve just had our house renovated our en-suite was approximately £15K.
hope that helps.

Depends on what type of sanitaryware and tiles you’ve chosen if that’s being supplied or it’s labour only. Also any electrical, towel rail, extractor fan, underfloor heating and disposal of old suite, tiles and rubbish.

roamingcat · 19/07/2022 19:31

Thanks for the replies so far - we have been quoted £4500 for the bathroom suite (bath, shower, toilet, sink, mirror, cabinet), and £7000 for installation (plus materials at cost price and tiles). It seems a lot as it's quite a small bathroom and we were aiming for "nice" without being "luxury". Not sure if we should look elsewhere but it's a bit difficult to know where to start...

Forgot to add - the quote for the bathroom suite also includes a new radiator and extractor fan.

Roughly ten grand I think - about 7 in labour and materials including some carpentry and 3 in fittings.

You should definitely not settle on the first quote you get.
Our plumbers are wonderful and although we’re in Surrey they work in central. Perhaps caste your net a bit further.

Snoofox02 · 19/07/2022 19:38

Just shy of £10k for a complete rip out and moving a few things around. That’s all in, so the suite, tiles, materials and labour. Organised separate trades though to save a little.

Twiglets1 · 19/07/2022 19:51

Daughter has been quoted 12k including installation in north London

partystress · 19/07/2022 20:17

Just outside London. 12k six months ago for complete refit, including demolition of a partition wall to allow for a bigger shower. Mid range sanitary ware, tiles from the Porcelanosa sale, which saved us £1200.

TheLette · 19/07/2022 21:25

Have you costed up what the bathroom suite / other bits and pieces would cost if you bought them yourself? That's the only way to tell really if the cost for that part is reasonable. It all depends on what kind of spec you are looking for, how many tiles you want etc.

Would you mind messaging me who you use please? I’ve been getting quotes of 12k for a v small bathroom in Surrey 😟

AdelaideRo · 19/07/2022 23:58

I was budgeting 10K for a mid range tear out and replace.

However, I'm having masses of trouble finding someone to do it!

Numbat2022 · 20/07/2022 00:04

We've just been quoted 9k for Wickes - mid/higher end of the ranges, complete refit and installing storage niches etc. In Essex, tiny bathroom (shower over bath).

I thought that was excessive but perhaps not! We're getting a couple of independent companies to quote as well.

Yazoop · 20/07/2022 21:18

I have a fairly small bathroom and it cost around 12-13k for a design and build service (including all materials - mid-highish spec). This did include completely stripping out back to brick, moving airing cupboard and old tank out, moving the loft hatch out of the loft, underfloor heating. They did a great job but a little bit more than we intended to spend (we'd budgeted about 10k).

Alexalee · 20/07/2022 21:22

Depends how central in London. Zone 1 or 2 I would say 7k labour is OK. Zone 2 or 3 a bit less. Zone 5 or 6 probably more like 4-5k
