Need to buy a toilet and having a look but omg, it’s so complicated. there’s allsorts of shapes, sizes, rimless/ rimmed, coupled etc. Has anyone bought a decent toilet for cloakroom recently?

Buy a close coupled set from a good retailer, not a budget model, whatever style you like, find a good handy person to fit it, they are easy to crack if you don’t take care.

We flush whilst the lid is closing. Saves banging and prolongs life. Just classier too!

We recently got a RAK rimless toilet. It super easy to clean and more hygienic being rimless. The toilet seat and lid pops off at a click of a button so can clean under it easily, no marks around the joins. And can chuck the whole seat to soak in a bit of bleach in the bath. Would recommend.

You take cleaning very seriously. I’ve never worried about a seat coming off. I’m more interested in cleaning the floor.

ANUsernam · 18/07/2022 15:30

@TizerorFizz precisely my point. This is what people will do, which is less hygienic.

Not sure what's classier about bacteria being flung around the room every time you flush...

TizerorFizz · 18/07/2022 15:34

We have never been ill! Nor anyone else with soft close that I know of. I don’t think most people take cleaning to the extremes you do. Your choice. Not mine.

PigletJohn · 19/07/2022 01:00

@TizerorFizz "Close coupled siphonic is best."

yes but AFAIK syphonic are not sold any more as they use more water

some people still own one and guard it carefully

a few numbskulls lob them in the skip and replace with cheap modern rubbish

I often feel this way about light bulbs.

needlessly complicated.

I went to Wilko once for light bulbs and there were about 6 of us all staring at them
Then one of them said "god I miss the days when you just picked up a bulb and screwed it in and it worked" Grin

That's impressive that neither you nor anyone you know with a soft close toilet has EVER been ill. Almost everyone I know has at some point in time had some kind of virus which could potentially be spread via aerosolised virus from flushing. Covid is obviously the first one that springs to mind.

It's a shame your amazing health hasn't helped your comprehension skills though.

@ANUsernam
How bizarre you are! No. Covid isn’t caught from a loo. I suggest you wear a nappy if you think it is. I can comprehend quite a lot thank you!

Back to the original conversation: if siphonic is no longer available. look at power flushing. Villeroy and Bosch have this. Duravit have 6l flush. Some makes are 4.5l. You don’t save water if you flush twice! Overall a well made flush and cistern is important. Some makes retain their good looks easily. High quality ceramics make a difference for longevity.

We have a Grohe wall hung one for our downstairs wc that gets a lot of use. I don’t know the exact specifications I’m afraid but I’ve been really happy with it. Neat looking, good, thorough flush that swishes around the bowl and easy to keep clean. Nice flush button. The whole system cost about £500.

Some of the more basic toilets can barely flush a piece of loo paper in one. We had a new one at work and it takes 2-3 flushes and jiggery poker with a loo brush to get 2 sheets of paper down.

if it’s going to get a lot of use, go for quality.

Toilet purchased…. Will see what’s it us like and report back in due course. Never buying a toilet again!
