Hello Mumsnet community,

Would it be possible to get some recommendations of nice and safe areas in this region where I could either rent or buy an apartment/house? I would be working in central Liverpool (L1) - and thus am open to short commutes of 30-50 minutes with public transport (i.e., bus or train as I can't drive yet).

As a background, I currently live in an exceptionally safe and leafy suburb of a small town (you can leave your front doors open and walk at 3-4 a.m.), mainly young professionals/families and modern builds, with good public transportation, hospitals, supermarkets, and some minutes away from the countryside. To a certain extent, I am trying to find something similar. Schools aren't a big criterion at the moment, but good doctors (& transportation & safety) would be.

As of now, I am considering Allerton, Aintree (slight concern that it might be too busy during the races), and Chester. Are there other areas I could consider? Or should I further fine-tune the neighbourhoods/towns above?
Thank you in advance!

Formby, north of Liverpool...good train line into city centre, about 35 mins, leafy and quiet with a village centre, good road link to m57, m58 too.

Just wondering if anyone had any information on Church Road Wallasey CH44? I will be living alone until my daughter comes back from University and just want somewhere safe and somewhere to walk my dogs. I have seen a property there I am really interested in.

Any information anyone can give would be really helpful x

You might be interested to see the info on StreetCheck (there are lots of websites that contain this type of info about crime stats and demographics of the people who live in a particular area, not sure if this particular one is better or worse than others, it was just the first result). https://www.streetcheck.co.uk/postcode/ch446jd

I don't know Wallasey well but it is a big and varied area. I don't think Church Rd is the 'nice' part, it is really Seacombe which is generally a bit rough, but it depends what you're looking for and what you're used to. My in-laws live in Wallasey and my DH grew up there, but not that road or specific part.

I would think there are safer and nicer places to live and walk your dogs on the Wirral, but depends on your budget and what you want. Hopefully someone more familiar with that location specifically can help further.

Hoylake or West Kirby is a good choice. I grew up in Hoylake although moved away 20 years ago it’s essentially the same if not better (was all a bit league of gentlemen when I was a nipper) it’s got the wide open beach, the Sandhills, parks, because it’s very walkable you get to know everyone. Good bars etc. And it’s an easy train journey into Liverpool or bus. I’d feel safe there anyway.

Wirral is a good shout - I'd look along the train lines and think about West Kirby, Hoylake, Meols etc. Also on the other side, Bebington and Bromborough. Then Formby, Blundersands, Crosby at a push, north of Liverpool. Don;t go anywhere off the train line - buses are slow and South Liverpool public transport is fairly poor.

It's OK but I'd head into New Brighton if you want it a bit more gentrified.

I live near Hoylake and that area (CH47 and CH48) are nice, safe and lots of good dog walking - they are much more expensive though, so depends what you want and your budget.
