Is my toilet leaking?

I noticed these damp looking patches on the grout between the floor tiles next to the loo (pic attached). DH thinks it's nothing but when I scrubbed the grout in case it was maybe discolouration, it disappeared but then came back within a few hours. Can anyone offer advice? @pigletjohn ? Also, the toilet seems slightly 'shaky' when sitting on it, could it be related in some way?

More than likely piss or condensation water always goes to lowest point which would be grouting

I can't see it.

Clean and dry it thoroughly, then sprinkle talc on your hand and blow it to leave a dusty film over the floor, pan, and especially the soil pipe connector at the back. This will highlight drips and leaks, even if they dry up in this hot spell.

Also open the cistern lid and look at the water level.

Is it on the line on the back marked "water level?"

Is the fill valve constantly dripping or dribbling?

Does the OP ever come back on these?

Towerofjoyless · 18/07/2022 19:41

Thanks @PigletJohn the water level seems fine, no drips etc. I'll do what you suggested with the talc (may not need to do this over the soil pipe as its dusty as fuck there - obviously been forgetting to clean it 😬but the dust is undisturbed).

Thanks for your helpful comment too @VeniVidiWeeWee nice to know you tar all posters with the same brush.

Hi @Towerofjoyless , might be worth flushing a number of times in a row and then checking the floor. DMIL had a leak from her loo, about 1/2tsp or so of clean water from the cistern, each time it was flushed...good luck 👍🏼

Thanks @7catsisnotenough doesn't seem to make a difference but worth a try! Hopefully it's nothing

Is the water level an indicator? The water level in our toilet is extremely low and I’ve noticed darker marks all around the walls of the downstairs loo above the skirting. The plumber who fitted it says it’s just a dodgy paint job.

Sorry to crash your thread op

to see if the walls are damp, tape clear plastic or clingfilm tightly over the suspicious areas. this will prevent moisture evaporating off. If water droplets form under the film, on the wall side, the wall is damp.

if water droplets or mist form on the room side, you have condensation.

Thank you! I’ll do this

No problem @User952539 hope it's nothing too serious going on.
