Tips to stop a pale kitchen looking bland and cheap

Inspired by another thread…I am planning to go for a pale kitchen with light worktops and hope it doesn’t end up looking too bland (pale walls too). However anything dark in my preferred style ends up looking too industrial for my liking. So what are your tips to stop it looking cheap and bland?

I’ll start:

-Plinth/skirting and molding
-Accessories and natural materials (wood) to warm up the paleness

-plants
-limit shiny, chrome handles/knobs; go for matte silver, pewter
-limit shiny electrical fittings

Thanks!

Thin worktop - saw these recommended on another thread and thought they were incredible value

Matte accessories in what I think of as millennial colours - that sage green, dusty pink, milky terracotta etc. Also for the lighting - low ceiling pendants in matte colours.

At least one open shelf (more if you have a good extractor or like cleaning for the artful display of the stylish crockery /glasses you will buy or if that's not going to happen, some pretty objects like the abovementioned accessories.

No knobs - use flat rectangular pull-handles fixed to top of cabinet door, again matte. Something this but longer

Matte off-white flush-to-the-wall sockets with rounded corners

A faded kelim in the dining bit if you have room

A pale matte wood dining table and chairs with rush seats if you can stretch to it - scandi-ish.

A boxed in column extractor fan rather than a trad steel one

Tiles in an unusual format - small but a longer rectangle than usual, laid in columns not in a brick pattern. Matte with a slightly contrasting grout, could be one of the above dusty colours.

Make sure the pale kitchen you choose is matte and a good off-white and nothing else!

Make sure you have enough cupboard /drawer space so that you only have the minimum on the worktop. Cabinet with plugs in to hide coffee machine/kettle/toaster if humanly possible.

Ooh ooh I forgot the most important thing - if at all possible no upper cabinets. No doors In base cabinets - only deep drawers, unless cabinet is floor to ceiling (can't remember word for them!)

Er.. is anybody there? Hello? Hello?
<decides OP was just a dream>

Pictures, clock, cook books and anything that adds colour, but plants are especially good as you have identified. Also if you have a dining area in the kitchen the table and chairs can add colour.

Agree with @WinterDeWinter that no upper units is particularly good. My mum has no upper units in a small kitchen and it looks really good as a result.

Light fitting, taps and switches - pick the best quality you can afford.

Thanks all, I def agree with the matte low profile electrical fittings.

No upper units won’t be an option, need the storage space!
