Still trying to find a stopcock in my new house. Could this be it? I tried Turning it but it won't budge. And if it's not it then what is it?

It does look like a stopcock tap.

It is, DWD40 helps

Definitely looks like one. If you can't turn it get it fixed asap. I speak from bitter experience - thankfully the bitter experience of my neighbours who couldn't shut theirs off when the mains pipe to their dishwasher split.

Most (all?) houses have an outside stopcock. It is worth finding our where this is as well as the internal one, and checking it turns. If it doesn't the water company will come out and free it off.

Our plumber had a big lever that he had to use to gently unstick ours. Once it was free it moved more easily but we still don’t trust it.

Our house is early 80s and didn’t have an outside stop tap. We recently got our water meter moved to the driveway and that now has a tap on it that’s much easier to use than the ancient one.

Yes, that does look like a water stop cock. Try a few squirts of WD40 over a couple of days, that might ease it.

Ah, brilliant, I'll try to loosen it with wd40. Luckily do know where the mains one is as I've already had to use it! But my plumber told me I really should locate the internal one, so I'm glad it looks like I've found it!
