How long is too long - vendors' post

Hi everyone,

I moved a month ago and it's obvious the vendors didn't set up Royal Mail redirection.

They left their number and address and asked me to let them know when there's post to be picked up.

But we're a month in, and I'm still getting (from what I can see from the envelopes) all their bank statements, credit card info, car tax, letters from the child's school - doesn't feel like they've changed anything!

Today, there's something from a ticket company that says recorded mail, assume it is actually tickets.

At what point do you think it's reasonable to start returning to sender. (I should point out they've only been once to collect the post, after not showing up at agreed times on 6 different occasions - all times they set and suggested!)

Thanks!

They don't get charged for you just writing the new address on top and sticking in the postbox. Noone does. I work in a lettings agents, we do it for about 3-6 months, depending how long they were living there, then RTS.

I would have been returning to sender already. At our last house we got post for the previous occupants (about 2-3 letters a day including parcels) for well over 12 months, we had been leaving it outside for them to collect with a note asking them to redirect. In the end I contacted the previous owner (landlord) to ask him to contact his former tenants. Got a really snooty/sarcastic message back about how he was soooo glad I was bringing this to attention. Started sending back but would still get the odd letters 6 years later. Lesson learned.

When we left that house I set up redirection and left a polite note to the buyer explaining we had but if anything slipped through the net in the first couple of weeks would they kindly letting us know. Contacted them the next week when we realised we were missing an important letter. They fished it out the bin with some other post of ours. Why can’t people just be halfway decent.

I would just write "Moved. RTS" to all of them. My seller arranged redirection and I forwarded mails to them a few times (for the one Royal Mail missed), but RTS was the only way for mails to stop coming.

Tell them they have 2
More weeks to arrange redirection

If you post it within 24 hours after receiving it you don't need to put a new stamp on (told to me by Royal Mail worker when I moved into my house and previous occupant hadn't set up a redirection) - just write: Redirect to then put their new address. With stamps now nearly £1 each I wouldn't be paying for one - if you post after the 24 hours its the recipient who gets the postage charge - bet they wll set up a redirection pretty quickly at that point!

Ooh I'd be very tempted to do this if it's true!

Otherwise I'd leave the post somewhere outside your house and email them saying come get it before it blows away/gets rained on/gets nicked.
