Secondary glazing or new triple glazing?

We live on a fairly busy road and would like to soundproof our house as much as we can. As such we've been looking at replacing our wooden sash and case windows with a similar style, however, it looks like it could cost £5k+ for two smallish windows (😯) so we're considering keeping the windows we have and installing secondary glazing as an alternative.

Does anyone have knowledge of which option would be best for soundproofing, and does secondary glazing look ok?

Thank you!

Secondary glazing is normally better for sound reduction because of the large air gap between the panes.

Thanks for your reply. That's true, good point. I'd be pretty happy if it's actually a better solution than triple glazing, it will save a lot of money!

I got secondary glazing and it is honestly a miracle worker. I can't hear the street at all now. You need to make sure there is at least a 10cm gap between the window and the secondary glazing.

That's good to know, thanks for replying! We've got deep enough windowsills to leave a 10 cm gap :)

It does look like it might be the way to go, now I just have to find someone to do it...
