Timber Frame vs Brick & Block

Hi,

I was looking at purchasing a property with Persimmon in Ashford. I found few properties in Bridgefield area, one is semi detached and another is a detached houses and both are 4 bed around the same price. Our obvious choice was detached house. However we learnt that the Persimmon's detached house has the timber frame and other one has brick and block. I was a bit nervous about timber frame and the potential future issues that might arise. I have done a bit of research and articles and posts suggest that most new built these days are timber framed and generally long lasting.

I thought I'll do a check here. Is timber frame a red flag? Would it effect the resale in the future in any way?

Any general information is appreciated.

Regards,
Kiran

I've lived in a timber frame in the past, it was ok but acoustically shite. Paper thin walls. My parents were very worried about the fire risk. I wouldn't touch Persimmon with a barge pole though. Build quality is shite as my parents found out. Block is solid, go for that.

We live in a semi-detached timber frame and sound insulation is very good (not a Persimmon house). The only thing I notice is that if an external door is slammed you can feel it. Previous house was block built, this one is much better insulated.

Don’t forget that timber framed houses have been around in the UK for centuries. They can be seen as a higher insurance risk by some insurers so get several quotes if you do go for one.

Thank you Dreikanter! We have pulled out of the purchase as we are not sure about going ahead due to builders bad reputation.
