Snags after moving in (light hearted)

So after a hellish 15 months involving 2 chain collapses, 2 buyers and 1 seller pulling out due to top of the chain not owning the access road and a field with llamas (don't ask!), we finally moved into our dream house, yay! The house is 20y so not a new build either.

Since then lots of small things have popped up. This was an annoyance at first but now I'm just laughing at each new one as otherwise would have popped a vein by now! 😵‍💫

  • 15 light bulbs blew in first 2 weeks, pretty much one a day...either the vendors saved nearly blown bulbs just for this or someone somewhere must be having a jolly great time as don't think this can be planned if you tried lol!
  • The plastic bits that are used for temp change on 2 radiators "fell off"...turns out the bits holding them to the radiators were in literal pieces.
  • Three radiators weren't working.
  • The edges on the shower holder fell off first time the shower was used.
  • The shower thermostat valve was frozen in place...and I mean FROZEN...we had to use a hammer to try turn it slightly so could have a lukewarm shower for the first few months until we could buy a new one.
  • The wreath hook for the front door fell off immediately after we put ours up, taking everything down with it...
  • One of the screws for the roller blinds in the dining room came off, was a lovely surprise on a Saturday morning, finding the cats swat at the blinds hanging off the other end.

Speaking of roller blinds, the plastic bit for the kitchen ones snapped on top AND bottom making them separate in the middle.

So can I hear your new house snag stories?

Moving in tomorrow. House about 20 years old. I'm worried now Confused

On a 3 bed 'well renovated ' rented house in Canterbury- vermin problems almost immediately, cooker then cut out- landlord (who actually lived in this house and had just moved out) pulled it away to find a dead electrocuted mouse- he then pulled away the kitchen cupboards next to it and we could see large holes filled in with quality street wrappers!! Took weeks to sort out in meantime had a rat swarming up walls etc

A few nights later the water tank fell off the wall and we had water gushing down the landing- same week the 'attractive' gas fire started leaking gas and a radiator in the lift room fell off the wall . Victorian cast iron stand alone bath- I had lost the will but the time it actually filled 1/4.

About a month later came back off holiday and we had been burgled

Decided house was utterly jinxed and a total bodge Job that looked very nice on the surface and we moved as soon as we could

Morning of daughter's christening. All food prepped. Money tight. Flushed loo upstairs........

So many disasters in that house. It just didn't want to be happy. Stayed five years and moved on.

Bought our house last year. It was previously rented. Tenant ripped out every single carpet in the house.
Fixtures and fittings landlord signed confirmed carpet was to be left in situ.

We ended up having to get new carpet in cost a fortune and had to go through solicitor to get our costs recouped.

Oh, Jesus. I'm in the process of helping my parents buy a flat in a four year old development. I was thinking they wouldn't need a survey, but reading some of these - should I get one anyway??

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 04/07/2022 17:59

Tbf a survey isn’t going to pick on tenants who take carpets and owners who take light bulbs etc

Ammie83 · 04/07/2022 18:55

The rat climbing out of the loo was a personal highlight...

Can't believe some of these, isn't there a law to prevent rubbish like this as some are danger to life!!

And here I thought our house was a bit jinxed... 😳

Oh no, these are funny/ not funny and terrible all rolled into one.

We had windows that didn't close ( you could push them all open from inside)

An oven that was broken

A massive leak under sink

Cracks on tiles (covered by rugs)
