Rangecookers - Wait for Lacanche or go for Rangemaster?

We are getting a new kitchen and I really want a Lacanche Cluny Classic 100 with an induction hob (rather than gas). Only issue is the lead times are crazy and chances are even if I order now, we won't have it until Christmas.
Alternatively, we could get a Rangemaster Elise which seems to be modelled on the Lacanche Cluny but isn't quite the same -- it would be available sooner but Rangemaster have jacked up their prices to the point that the price difference between the two isn't as substantial as it used to be.

Does anyone have experience with these and which to go for? Is Lacanche worth the wait?

Also, is an induction hob a mistake?

I wanted a Lacanche but couldn't justify the cost so I got the Elise. It's fabulous and I really love the induction hob - was previously a big fan of gas.

We do a lot of cooking and baking and it's been superb. Looks really good too!

I have a Rangemaster Infusion with the induction hob.
I find the main oven cooks a bit unevenly but the induction hob is a dream.

The Lacanche would be a dream for me - have you looked at nearly new/refurb options on eBay? I had a Rangemaster in my previous home (gas not induction) and adored it.

I’ve just ordered a rangemaster Elise induction in stone blue (the colour is gorgeous). I too have taken the step to move from gas. Be aware though that stock levels are poor and when I range rangemaster it could be up to 30 weeks! Luckily I found one in stock. I would’ve loved a lacanche too but slightly out of budget. Plus the stone blue was the perfect colour I was looking for.

Rang not range!

I think the only similarity between the Rangemaster Elise and a Lacanche is the decorative dials. Lacanche is much much better quality. Have you looked at other brands? I tossed up between Mercury and Falcon, which are comparable to each other in performance and build (and price), but opted for Falcon, as the style of it suited my kitchen better. It's a really well built range that I have been delighted with.

Just resurfacing this thread to see if anyone can provide a bit more of a user experience pros + cons list as I'm currently weighing up this same question!

Kta7 · 16/05/2023 18:00

Is it also the induction hob you’re considering? Because we find the gas hob on the Elise a complete PITA!

CrackSpackle · 29/06/2023 10:12

The best analogy of the difference between a Lacanche and an Elise build quality, would be the difference between the brick house and the straw house in The Three Little Pigs.

Rangemaster has really capitalised on being a lookalike, and it looks pretty, but it feels flimsy and cheap compared to the Lacanche.

Just came across yr message when browsing the web....can I ask what it is about the gas hob on the Elise that is the issue as we were thinking of buying that model & we'd be using the hib more than the oven. Any other reliability issues to be aware of?

Kta7 · 21/11/2023 20:24

Just takes ages to ignite, you have to stand there with the dial pressed in for a few seconds before the flame ‘sticks’

Thanks Kta7 for your reply - sorry for my late response - spending too much time browsing for Black Friday deals!

Look at this beauty! It's a professional cooker but beautiful, with really satisfying, next level performance. I loved my Lacanche. It's worth the wait OP, I don't think a Rangemaster really compares. But Falcon probably worth a look too.

True, but when it's on, it's ON.

Would love to hear how you got on with your decision! Which did you go for in the end? We're currently struggling to decide between Rangemaster Elise 110 and the Lacanche Chagny - both with induction hob. Any thoughts or advice welcome! There's a significant cost and lead time difference with both but want to make the right decision long term. Both look beautiful.

@MKS84 I am tagging the OP for you, otherwise they may not see this thread bump.
