New kitchen ideas/essentials

Hi, we are looking to have a new kitchen fitted after months of looking. It’s approx a 3m x 7m area with a utility area off it that we will
open up to incorporate into the area. We are using kutchenhaus. What are the essentials you would recommend for a new kitchen/helpful tips re storage/layout etc? Our current kitchen was in when we bought our house. It’s lovely but just not functional anymore. We didn’t design any of it. Anything to avoid? It will be a modern minimalist design with everything hidden away and hopefully a Long Island with a bar area at one end and a small dining area at the other end. I’ve no idea what current trends I need to be aware of! Many thanks

make sure you have a good system for rubbish and recycling to keep that out of sight.

think about how people move through the space, not just about how many appliances you can fit in.

Can you keep a bit of utility space for a pantry or to put washing machine etc in if you aren’t going to have separate utility?

think about storage, mops, bins, hoover. We had a cupboard built in with plugs to recharge hoover. Love the under counter bin.

wish I’d put an under counter pull out cupboard for oil and spices next to hob.

we’ve a pull out larder which is ace.

lots of plugs.

a drawer for crap.

drawers for pans and plates.

we got a boiling water tap. It’s nice, not a must have, but a nice to have.

we spent a rather boring evening going through the cupboards of old kitchen totting up everything we had and working out where it would go 8n new plan and realised we could lose a cupboard and gain a wine fridge.

Are you sure about losing the utility? It’s a mega plus point to have one

Deep drawers for under counter storage instead of cupboards. It's been a life changer. We opted for a compact dishwasher as there are only 2 of us most of the time. This allowed for more storage space.
A large cupboard for storing stuff like a breadmaker/food processor etc.

@Imtryingveryhard I agree about thinking again about losing a utility space. It's so great to be able to close the door on the washing machine when on spin plus I've a ceiling mounted dolly maiden in mine which is fantastic for drying the washing.

These are all great ideas! The utility will still have 3 walls - we were just thinking to open up the door access area by half a metre each side. It will be incorporated into the kitchen but definitely still used for the washing/prep/hiding area from the main kitchen. I’ve just seen the bora hobs which look nice and I definitely need a herb/spice/oil section as well as a wine fridge!

I’ve never had to design a kitchen before to include so many new elements - I want to make sure I don’t miss anything!

How about a pocket door into the utility?
