Should I get a skirting board for our new bathroom? Help!

We're having our bathroom done, and I need to decide whether to get a skirting board for the walls. I attach a rough drawing of the room - the purple lines are there the skirting would go.

My issue is, on the LHS we are having tiles on the walls (up to 1m). The floor is tiled. So would the skirting sit on top of the floor tiles, and then wall tiles sit on top of the skirting? I can't see any examples of this online. Does this work?

RHS wall will not be tiled so it's not an issue. Or can we add skirting on RHS but not the left?

I know you can also get tile skirting but I'm not sure I can quickly and easily get one that goes with both the wall and floor tiles.

Help!

We don't have skirtings in our bathroom where we have tiles so the wall tiles just meet the floor tiles. We have skirting on the non tiled walls.

Thank you @Sanch1 so basically skirt the right but not the left. What does it look like where the floor tiles meet the wall tiles? Would you consider sharing a photo please? I can't find a photo online 😞

Like this? Is it just silicone?

You don't need skirting where tiles meets tiles. It would get wet and mould and god knows what would grow under it. I'd personally see if they can run the floor tiles up the RHS, at skirting board height. We had this in a rented place and it was so easy to clean and didn't cause issues when water was on the floor. Also easier to mop the bathroom floor.

You can make skirting out of your floor tiles like this

Thank you @SUPNovice the problem is the floor tiles are 20x20cm and the attached design, so not easy to run up the wall.

We will have a wooden bath panel (marine ply), and it'll be painted with moisture resistant paint. Ditto skirting. That should be ok in terms of mould right?

No they trap dust and never look clean.

We did this - it looks great

Applesandroses · 25/06/2022 20:56

We always tile to the floor and then seal the wall tiles to the flooring with silicone. One less set of skirting boards to dust!

On the RHS, how would a skirting even work with the bath panel? We're getting a wooden panel that you can remove to access the plumbing as required. How do you remove the panel if there's a skirting butted up right next to it?

I'm Not sure I follow you on this one? Usually the bath panel is last item fitted and it just scribed around the skirting if it does meet a wall that you have decided to skirt - the panel effectively fits on/against it

kumquattish · 25/06/2022 21:14

Ah it's scribed around the skirting as in you cut a little gap to fit the skirting? The panel does go all the way to the wall.

We did the same as @BonnyandPoppy

Best photo I could find, we're away so not at home to take one!

We also have skirting made from our floor tiles. It looks smart and it's easy to clean.

kumquattish · 26/06/2022 08:38

But I can't have them made out of the floor tiles because of the pattern.

Get a plain tile top use as skirting but most would not think it necessary.

why not, as long as they align them properly with the floor. You might have to go half tile to get a sensible height. Else pick a plain tile one of the colours of the floor tiles.

kumquattish · 26/06/2022 19:43

Is there a structural or non-aesthetic reason for having a skirting, be it tile or wood?

OP posts:
Sanch1 · 26/06/2022 20:10

No, you'll just need to make it's plastered neatly to the floor as it'll be presumed it's being tiled or skirting and will be plastered short of the floor.

couldishouldigoforit · 26/06/2022 20:46

If you tile is black and white then I'd use a black tile as a skirting tile

kumquattish · 27/06/2022 07:28

But the wall won't be plastered at all. It's a plaster board and I don't think anything additional is going on top Confused

I wouldn’t have skirting boards in bathroom, water can cause them to mould and warp, SB are also dust gatherers. Quite surprised SB have been suggested? Most people don’t have them I bathrooms now.
