70s style interior design

I’m buying a 1970s house and I want the interior to compliment the era of the house. I also quite like 70s design, but all I can think of it Orla Kiely. I’m not talking full on avocado suite but having the 70s as a theme.

Any ideas or inspiration? So far I’ve thought tan leather sofa, oranges, greens a touch of mid century? Textured rugs?

Go on Pinterest and research mid century modern interior looks, 70s interiors, Palm Springs interiors, California interiors of the 1970s, etc

There are also Instagram accounts you could explore to give yourself some ideas and inspiration, develop a palette...

And don't forget Scandinavian interiors of the 70s either.

Hasn’t thought of Californian interiors! Thank you

For really authentic 1970s style, you need 'The House Book' (various editions, c 1974) by pioneering designer Terence Conran. Readily available secondhand, just Google.

Looked at today, it's pretty startling, but you can learn from and adapt. Most importantly, it's the real thing. Orla Kierly is NOT

Have a read of this…www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2022/jun/24/mid-century-millennial-the-ubiquitous-look-that-took-over-a-generations-homes?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

I like the look of Scandinavia furniture, plants etc. but you can go over the top…

There was a great episode of Scotlands Home of the year- where a home was a homage to the 70's. Looked amazing.
I think it was in Dunblane maybe.
Will be on YouTube.
