Floor coverings in rental

Hi,

I am about to sign a tenancy agreement to move into a private flat whilst we continue to save up for a mortgage deposit.

The flat has had new floor coverings installed in the bathrooms, kitchen and bedrooms however the hallway, living room, and storage room have been left in their normal concrete state.

Our 5 year old child will be moving in with us and soon our newborn will be living here (7 months pregnant). A friend has told us that the landlord is responsible to put flooring in the entire property, is this true and has anybody got any advice on this before I officially sign up? Or am I responsible for carpeting the rest of the property?

thank you 😊

Housing association and council usually the tenant provides the flooring. For a private let I would expect floor coverings but it isn’t a legal requirement as far as I’m aware. Have you asked the landlord/letting agent?

We are LLs. Our properties have either carpet or laminate. I am not sure whether they are a legal requirement.
one property was refurbished completely, painted, recarpeted, new bathroom and kitchen.
pit was bloody costly to recarpet and paint when the tenants did a flit

I wouldn’t sign until you have it in writing they’ll put something down on the floor - are there other options apart from this house if they won’t agree?
