Help me choose some gravel/pebbles to surround new garden studio (please!)

Hi all, would love some input so I can end my indecision... We've got a newly installed garden studio that looks a bit like the attached. We are planning to put a strip of gravel/pebbles around three sides of it (between it and fences) - but I can't decide what type/colour. Any thoughts? Something dark like Welsh slate chippings? Or something more neutral like pea gravel or shingle? All thoughts welcome

I have no suggestions for a particular type, although my preference if your garden studio is like your pic in colour would be for a dark slate. However, I strongly suggest you don't go for stones/pebbles that are small as cats absolutely will use it as a litter box (I speak from experience and as a cat lover/owner), go for larger stones which can't be rooted around in by neighbourhood moggies.

think what would look natural in your area. if you are near wales, go for slate. but if you are in the chilterns on chalk hills, then slate will look out of place. so you could go for river stones instead.

Thanks so much. Great points. I hadn't thought about the 🐱 issue!

not pea shingle, it holds weeds and kicks around

pebbles are good

but large round stones are uneven to walk on

Slate would suit your modern building. If you choose to use it I’d recommend the 20mm shingles and not the larger 40mm size. It looks better when smaller.
