House prices 'Sold' On Right move- no images

Anyone know why? On House Prices Sold (not STC on the For Sale part of the site) some houses show no images. (This applies to new build obviously, but also others.)

Al that's shown is the sale price, and a grey blanked out box where images should be.

These are houses sold recently, within the last year or so, not 30 years ago.

Reason for asking is to know what improvements current vendors have made since the previous sale.

Can vendors veto photos by asking the Land Registry?
How does it work?

I’ve wondered this too, and whether people have the right to have the photos and details removed from internet (data privacy or something?)

Palavah · 19/06/2022 09:34

The photos might not have made it up there if the house sold off-market.

Can you do a drive-by or check google maps/google earth to see if any obvious changes like extensions?

Xfox · 19/06/2022 13:06

Yes owners can ask they be removed. But if the listing was never on Rightmove they won't have the listing to show anyway. You can also check Zoopla etc to see if it was listed on there instead.

Xfox · 19/06/2022 13:08

Also the photos have nothing to do with Land Registry. It's the sites own images from their previous listings.

It’s if it sold off market. Ours has no pics as it was never advertised, the owners didn’t want the hassle of marketing it if they could avoid it.

I found this too, there was a house I was really interested to see the inside of for reasons I won't bore you with, so I typed the address into Google and it came up with the video, on YouTube, that the EA had made as part of advertising the property.

carefullycourageous · 19/06/2022 15:29

Yes you can ask for them to be removed, and we have done this.

This happened with DSs house and I thought it a shame as he has fully renovated it and it’s nice to look at the improvements he's made. But then I found the original images on Zoopla. Try there.

Octomore · 19/06/2022 15:35

Agree with PPs - they will have been sold off market, or advertised through other places that weren't rightmove. The photos have absolutely nothing to do with the land registry records.

Octomore · 19/06/2022 15:42

Also, if you think you are going to decide whether the house is worth the price based on improvements made since the last sale, you are probably barking up the wrong tree

They could have bought from someone who needed to sell in a hurry and therefore accepted a knockdown price. They could have bought a repossessed property and got it cheap that way. You have no idea what factors influenced the previous sale price, so you'd be pretty foolish to try to use it as a bargaining tool.

What a house is worth is determined by negotiation in the current market. It doesn't matter what they have or haven't improved - what are similar houses going for in that area?

Sapphirejane · 19/06/2022 15:43

I asked Zoopla to remove images of my old house, it just felt odd having all my belongings online in perpetuity. I didn’t bother with the new house as it was empty when put up for sale and is now unrecognisable even in layout from the original photos. When I sell I’ll ask for the photos to be removed once I move out.

minuette1 · 19/06/2022 21:24

We asked for our house's photos be taken down once we'd bought it. It was done straight away by both Rightmove and Zoopla - I just had to send an email. The reason we did it was just for simple privacy reasons - no-one needs to see the inside of anyone's house if it's not currently for sale..

pushingpoppies · 19/06/2022 22:18

I also asked for house photos to be taken down after buying it. Knew people would be looking at as a comp when other houses came up for sale, which felt intrusive if they knew what my bathroom and bedroom looked like!

Starseeking · 19/06/2022 23:48

The house I'm currently buying will come up as a grey box when it completes, as it's a private sale, so never had any estate against marketing material.

Conversely, the house I sold last year has on both Rightmove and Zoopla not only my updated version of the house, but the pictures from the house of the person we bought it from, who had lived there for 32 years. I LOVE looking at the improvements we I made, and probably aren't that bothered about it being online as I don't live there anymore.
