I used to go on anti fox hunting demos…

..now I’m actually considering staging a fox hunt in my back garden. I am finding myself so depressed by the daily food waste and fox shit strewn across my garden, as well as them digging in all my pots seemingly just for fun? Does anyone know of any fox repellants that actually work, or do I just need to accept its part of city life and make it part of my routine?
Having another animal issue with mice: they seem to be hip to the traps and poison we leave out, and they keep getting into cupboards and nibbling crackers etc that are for the kids packed lunches, I really can’t afford to keep chucking stuff. Have ordered some food storage containers, but I just want to fuckers to sod off! Do I need to go nuclear and get the sticky traps? I know they are awful and so inhumane, but I keep finding mouse poos in areas the kids play and I just want to destroy them. Any ideas much appreciated for my animal woes.

They don't normally 'out' themselves. That is one sad fox. It's on a suicide mission! Haha
Terrorist fox?

Here he is just sitting on the driveway. I swear he stares down the camera and all.
He’ll hide in the bush if disturbed but comes back almost straight away and just continues on.

It's like a haunting lol

Over population of humans is the problem!

whoknow · 18/06/2022 16:44

I'm pretty sure that is the Mum and not a sibling. A sibling wouldn't care.

Poor fox, can imagine how annoying it is though

There’s a big daddy fox who struts about the place; not a bother on him. He does a poo on your lawn in full daylight whilst maintaining eye contact, but alas I have no videos of that.
We presumed this was a sibling because it was so much smaller, but you could be right. That’s even sadder. 😭

Jaysis it’s be a slow news day if they did haha! If it got me some answers and solutions I’d be delighted though, as would the neighbours I’m sure!
I’ll see if I can get a video out the bedroom window tonight; the Ring ones look like they were filmed on a potato.

The only one that would cry would be Mammy.

I was going to suggest you spray some Scoot all over the road and footpath. Long shot but worth a try.

Are you in Ireland?

No, I’m in Surrey, near Redhill.

I don’t remember having urban foxes in Dublin tbh. I only heard one screaming for the first time when I stayed in my uncle’s house when I was off to Oxegen or Witnness at Fairyhouse racecourse. (He lived near it so it meant we didn’t have to camp.) I thought someone was being murdered; I nearly died of fright.

whoknow · 18/06/2022 17:01

I think that's the Mammy Fox. She's grieving and is in denial.

Peaceloveandcrispsandwiches · 18/06/2022 17:01

I live in a block with 12 other flats, about 15 years ago some started getting mice. Landlord (HA) send round pest control to everyone, even those of us who didn't have them. When he used to come to mine, he said as they were in the building, they would come into mine to see what was available but because it was clean and there were no crumbs/food left out (all food mice could get into was sealed away) they wouldn't stay. We got a cat just to be on the safe side, and where my neighbours have had serious infestations we haven't. I really think it's a combination of them being able to smell the cat, and there being no food for them to try and take. So I understand with working you don't want to get a cat, but if you make sure you only eat in one room and keep everything sealed away, they should disappear.

I've read the fox debate but have no idea - very sad about the fox that hasn't left where it's sibling died 😥

whoknow · 18/06/2022 17:03

Mammy Fox seriously doesn't give a fuck. She's sad and doesn't care if she dies. She's begging for justice?

rumred · 18/06/2022 17:04

@MissMaple82 spot on. We are a fucking disgrace of a species.
Im happy to lend out my cats or dogs, have done in the past. Torturing animals is grotesque. Shame on anyone who does so

Peaceloveandcrispsandwiches · 18/06/2022 17:04

PS I should also add that 15 years on, our HA landlord hasn't addressed ongoing issues with flytipping, food waste around binsheds area (I'm talking really bad, we got the press involved because it was such an appalling health hazard) and we now have rats in the structure of our building. It's horrific. But we don't have them, and I think it's because of the above, even though the people above me and either side of me have them (one found mice in their mattress, the other had a rat pop out from behind the sink when they were on the pan 🙀)

whoknow · 18/06/2022 17:06

Don't ask me how you can get a fox over grief! You'll be haunted until she accepts that her baby is dead.

whoknow · 18/06/2022 17:08

I'm pretty sure that that little fox doesn't accept that her baby is dead. She's probably shunned by all other foxes now because she can't accept the 'reality'. She's still calling for the baby though. It's so sad. I'm going to cry!

I must start referring to the fox as she; I think you are all correct about it being the Mam. She just looked so small compared with the tank of a Daddy fox. (Daddy fox is suspected of killing some cats around here; he is seriously massive. Like a ginger wolf.)
I don’t think she has a death wish; she runs away if a car or pedestrian comes along, but I still worry about her being in the middle of the road like that all the time.

jamoncrumpets · 18/06/2022 17:11

My NDN has a completely overgrown garden and foxes nest/hide in there. I keep chickens (just a few back garden hens) and I daren't let them out at all. Nothing will dissuade them, we've tried everything. They leap one low point on the fence, and its on next door's side, who obviously don't care.

whoknow · 18/06/2022 17:12

Aw bless her. You can be kind to her. I don't know how to talk to foxes lol. But they're one of cleverest animals, so they'll understand kindness. I'd try talking to her through the doorbell or going out and talking to her. Tell her that it's ok to sad?

Oh yes, I'm sure she will understand that Confused
