How do I know it's the right house?

We viewed a house last weekend which I really liked. DH is a bit less sold than me and keeps pointing out the downsides of which there are a couple to be fair. I just keep thinking of the upsides to it. But it's the only house on the market that size at that price and I'm wondering if the reason I like it so much is because there's nothing else available? I don't want to put an offer in and then 2 months down the line a better house comes up. How do you know it's right? It feels like a gamble! We aren't first time buyers either, I just feel a bit conflicted. And it's a lot of money!

Both me and my husband both new immediately that the house were buying was “the one” - I actually nearly cried during the viewing as I loved it so much!

It's really good when you get that 'feeling' and then you know it's right. You and your DH both need to love it for you to go further with it. If not, your DH might resent the decision forever.

You never know if something better is going to come along but if you both love the house you've gone for, then I can't see how any house could be better. Maybe this one's not the right one for you both if your DH isn't on board with it.

Once you've had an offer accepted and you've instructed solicitors, you need to turn off all your Rightmove alerts, unsubscribe from new property emails from EAs etc. Then frankly you won't know what else has come up. If the thought of doing that fills either of you with horror, then perhaps it isn't the right house?

A better house could well be more expensive- can you go higher easily ?

For most people a house purchase is a compromise- what's the best we can get for the money we have

Yes wait and something with compromises that suit you better may come along , or it may not

Is it perhaps that you and OH have different priorities on the compromises ?

What are the downsides?

The living space maybe isn't as big as we would have liked given the overall size of the house but it's twice as many bedrooms and bathrooms as we have now and the outside space is incredible. It's down a private road surrounded by woods, it's perfect for the kids

I don't think we'll get this much house for the money to be honest but DH is very what if. He's agreed to see it again and the estate agent has said the vendors are negotiable which has appealed to him Grin

Is there room to extend in the future?

Not really. We could enclose the veranda and make it part of the main house I suppose

Two months down the line you'll be so busy buying said house that whatever else comes on the market won't be on your radar.

Do we ever know we're buying the right house? Who viewed their house more than 3 times? Then said here's £123,456.

im buying a new build house, can’t see inside it and there aren’t even any photos because it’s a new house type for the builder. We’ve gone off a floorplan.

what we did was to make a list of must haves, nice to haves and must not haves and then based our decision off that. So if you made a similar list, does the house tick all the must have boxes? I’m not really a believer in “the feeling”. If the house does what I need it to do then that’s a good house for right now.

Sods law another, probably more practical, house has just come on the market today 🤦🏼‍♀️
