AIBU Rubbish in new house

Hi everyone, moved in yesterday and house was filthy (down to bits of food still on draining board, dirty toilet and cobwebs so thick it's like candyfloss) so I'm not best placed to be objective on this!

Seller claims they were being nice and have left some garden equipment, at least 14 old pots of paint, scrap mdf, old footballs and opened bags of sand and concrete, might be more but I can't get past it to see!!

Seller is upset I've complained and offered to come pick it up today, but after being messed around (we completed at 1130, didn't get keys til 3) I have so much to do and can't be waiting around today for them, and also have cleaners in today so until they're gone, can't be letting more people in.

AIBU to ask that I get a removal skip van to come and pick it up and they pay?

Other option is leave it on the drive, but then if they don't come get it, i am snookered to move other things in!

With my last house the seller left 3 skips worth of stuff. When my solicitor got in touch he denied any of it existed. Theres little you can do. I wouldnt entertain them coming around to pick it up. Get a skip and dump it all.

The lack of pride some people have!

They did come and clear it, and were very nice about it, so all is well in the end.

Now on a hunt for portable lights until I get the bathroom done 😂

@CaptainMyCaptain In all honesty and in the interests of disclosure we are lucky to rent not cheap , but very nice houses usually through quality agents- so I can fully appreciate it's not everyone's experience on the rental market!! 25 yearsago was different and I do remember a couple of more crappy experiences

When did moved into her flat we found they had left pretty much everything. It had been rented out furnished. While we were happy to have the furniture and had agreed that it took 3 trips to the tip with all the other stuff.

Not to mention the 15litres of dirty water in the washing machine discovered when we opened the door🤣

Solicitor was useless

It's not even as if they have lockdown and closed tips as an excuse ....

Friend moved during that time and got a garage full of stuff to clear. The vendor was apologetic - my friend is the worlds best at selling stuff though and she shifted most of it - sold some and gave away other items.

My experience, last two moves, was into spotlessly clean houses and I left mine spotless - had cleaners in following the removal guys from room to room. Seems I was lucky 🤷‍♀️

A lot of people just live like pigs. My SIL is a health visitor and she says it’s
unusual to enter a clean and tidy house these days. I think also people blame everyone else but I truly believe some people cba and are bone idle. Don’t give me vulnerable, MH issues etc. It’s their choice to live like that and sod everyone else. They certainly aren’t going to clean and tidy for anyone else when they move out.

Our last house only one ring worked on the cooker and there were 5 of them.

Part and parcel of moving house, I'm afraid. The cost of a skip is nothing in comparison to what you've just spent. I don't think you can really complain, or if you do, you'll probably get laughed at.

Our vendors were kind enough to leave, off the top of my head, a washing machine full of wet washing, drawers full of clothes, plenty of vases, a cake stand, numerous crappy nicknacks, a box full of documents, a shed full of knackered tools, ten bazillion coathangers a shit load of paint, a huge roll of copper wire, half a car roof box and a PlayStation 2. The freezer was broken and the fridge was full of mould.

We also found a thong down the back of the radiator, three years after we moved in....

I absolutely don't understand this mindset! It's precisely because I've just spent 100,000s on a contract that I expect it to be followed! What other parts of the contract do you think are fine to be ignored?!

I did complain, both solicitors agreed with me and the problem is now fixed. Which is how it should be, and I think if less people were happily ignoring contract breaches, the process would be a whole lot smoother...

My last move, I left our house spotless, was hoovering my way out of the front door as the new owners walked in. Arrived to our new house needing cleaning from top to bottom. DH called round to the old house the next day with an appliance manual we had accidentally brought with us - the new owner was working in the kitchen and stubbing cigarettes out on the tiled floor I had scrubbed the day before. 😯DH got out of there as quickly as he could!
