Checking the progress of the sale of our house

We accept an offer for our house in mid May about 4 weeks ago. Our buyer needs a mortgage but nothing to sell. We instructed the solicitors and sent back all forms completed. May I please know if it is fine to chase the EA weekly for an update and also how much progress the buyers should have made by 4 weeks please.

You need to check with your solicitor directly, they're the ones with information, the Estate Agent would only have to contact them to find out anyway.

When I sold my last house, it was my EA that became our most valuable source of information! There were 4 of us in the chain and the three houses were all sold by the same agent so she could speak directly to each of the solicitors who were all in the same practice(?) but couldn't communicate directly! The solicitors could only say 'we are waiting for xyz' but EA was able to find out why the wait was so long. Didn't stop it being an incredibly stressful and drawn out experience but at least knowing someone else was able to pressurise the lets say 'less inclined to hurry ourselves' branch of solicitors made it easier.

Although the OPs solicitor isn't going to be speaking to the buyer direct, which the EA will, so probably wise to keep in regular contact with both EA and solicitor.

I agree the EA can sometimes be more informative than you think!

Yes it’s fine - you should deal with your EA as they should be as motivated to progress the sale as you are!

Ask them to find out if the buyer has put in their full mortgage application, and when the mortgage valuation is booked in for. If they haven’t at least done that after 4 weeks, during a time of rising interest rates, I’d be worried!

I am selling and buying at the moment and have got much more info from the estate agent than solicitor, I tent to chase both about once a week

Thank you all of very good input. I have now started chasing the EA weekly with specific questions.

I make a list of things I want done/answers on for each week and chase both estate agent and solicitor on a Tuesday and Friday. Seems excessive but I find if left to it they'll put ours to the bottom of the pile as we're at the beginning of the process and we're trying to exchange quickly to secure a school place in our new area.
I'm also an estate agent and know if not pushed the are v unlikely to offer up much help from their own initiative.
DH is very much a quiet emailer and then quietly gets anxious that nothing is happening but doesn't like to chase people, my work has made me comfortable getting on the phone and asking direct questions/setting deadlines so we've seen a good amount of progress since I started dealing with it like us.
Im sure all sides find me annoying but whatever gets it done faster I don't care and I'm paying thousands for the service!
