Garage conversion into kitchen

We're buying a house with a small narrow kitchen across the back of the house. Rather than extending, we're thinking of knocking through the front wall of the kitchen into the integral garage and converting this to make a bigger, l-shaped kitchen diner.

We're not getting quotes yet as we prob won't be able to afford this for a good few months/maybe a year, but I'm looking for ball park figures as to how much this may cost and also what would be involved planning wise (permission/building regs etc). Has anyone done something similar? We're in the South East.

No planning permission required if not increasing footprint.

Building regs only.

Cost wise...could be anything. Will it include making good again so you're ready to move in or just a shell and you sort the trades yourself? New kitchen etc? Floor levels the same or different?

Cost irrelevant when you're not doing it just yet as prices are only going to go up by quite a lot by the time you've actually got round to it.

Planning permission may be required if there is a condition on the original planning permission restricting the use of the garage to garage purposes only. Permission would be required to relax that condition. If the garage is a true integral garage, built as part of the original house, and the house dates back to c1970s or later, there is a real chance that such a condition could be in place.
