Leak from flat upstairs

Our lovely tenants have suffered from a serious water leak from the flat immediately above them.
The owners/agents are dealing with it but it involves removing the floor of the upstairs flat, and replacing the ceiling of ours.
They understandably say the work will take some time to complete, obviously everything needs to dry out.
Though they are accepting liability and our tenants are remaining in the flat, can we ask on their behalf for some sort of compensation for the inconvenience?

You need to let your insurers know, who will seek appropriate compensation from their insurer. It would be reasonable for them to pay for something like hotel costs whilst the works are done.

Thank you Fyn. You seem to think a request for accommodation is reasonable, and I will ask for compensation for inconvenience etc even if tenants do not want to move out,
i have spoken to the owners/agents and they told me they would be dealing with our letting agents, but accept full liability for the damage.
I will speak again to discuss hotel costs etc.

I wouldn’t let them palm you off, you need to get your insurance company to do a full inspection of damage, test the electrics etc… I have worked as a surveyor that managed lettings. I wouldn’t let any old letting agent sort this out, they don’t know what they are looking at and normally don’t have any qualifications.

Have they put heaters/dehumidifiers in already to help dry out to prevent damp.

You should be able to claim for compensation for inconvenience however.
