Retrospective building regs?

This had been plaguing me for a while. Many years ago - nearly 30 years - we made some changes to our house. We turned one small room into a bathroom, took down an extension at the back of the house, knocked down an internal wall between the tiny kitchenette and the back room, changed the doors at the back-installed an RSJ etc, added a small window. We didn’t get any buildings regs or planning done by the council -we simply didn’t realise we might have had to. The house is still fine and dandy. Only reading stuff on here makes me wonder if we should have. What’s best to do? Do we approach the council, or is it too long ago? Is it necessary or am I worrying about nothing?

At 30 years ago I'd say just forget about it. Highly unlikely it will ever be an issue after such a long amount of time.

Don’t approach the council you’d only
invalidate an indemnity policy. At that period of time I would not worry. Do you have plans though to show it’s been built safely?

If you’re not selling there’s not urgently an issue?

No, no plans. I am concerned what would happen if we try to sell.

After 30 years, nothing at all, I really wouldn't worry about it.

I dont think building regs were a thing 30 years ago and planning only needed to extend the house so dont worry. It shouldnt cause any problems now.

We bought a house last year with an extension built in the 80s. Solicitor couldn't have cared less about lack of paperwork relating to it. We have since modified and re-roofed it, did it through building regs and no questions asked about lack of regs for the original extension.
