Has anyone heard of or got a house with these bricks.
Just had a survey back on a property we are purchasing and its got calcium sillicate bricks.
Ive never heard of them n not sure whether to continue with purchase.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have them in mine, what d'you want to know? They were a popular & cheap(ish) building material between the wars. My house is 1920s. They're solid, usually well built. These bricks are autoclaved (baked by steam in long tubes) - as far as I could find out from google when I was learning. Resulting in their only downfall as far as I can see that they FUCKING strong. Putting up curtain tracks was a bit of a challenge but once they're up you know they're good. We have no cavity wall with these blocks but it's never caused us any issue. We have no damp, cracking or crumbling. If I saw a house with these I'd feel confident.

I should add, our house is pebbledashed on the outside which is what was commonly done to make them look nicer.

I'd far rather a solid & reliable sand-lime construction than the crappy timber construction of today's houses.

Thank you for the reply. This house does have a cavity and are just on the outside.
I was concerned we cant get a mortgage on them.
Also need a couple replaced n havent been able to find any in the uk.
