Moving Day Clean

How much did you pay for someone to come in and do a deep clean the day you moved and will they do absolutely everything? I'm assuming I look for someone who offers an end of tenancy clean?

I'm already decluttering and cleaning and the house isn't on the market yet, so it's not going to be horrendously dirty but, my mother lives a few doors away, I don't want to give the new owners any opportunity to tell her we left the house dirty.

Any tips appreciated.

Several hundred.
End of tenancy clean on a small London two bed flat was over £300. But that was because new tenants were moving in and it had to be up to very clean standard.
My last house i sold I just got my cleaning woman to come and vacuum and wipe down the skirting boards and cupboards as we left each room and do the bathrooms.
Ring up some cleaning firms and they'll tell you based on size of house, but really it doesn't have to be sparkling.

I did it myself. The movers came the day before and did the packing, once they'd gone I cleaned the oven, hob and kitchen inc wiping inside cupboards as wouldn't be using it again. Then on moving day as each room was emptied onto the lorry I cleaned door handles, window ledge and skirting boards and hoovered. Did the bathrooms last incase anyone needed to use them. It doesn't have to be immaculate as they will prob clean it again themselves anyway.... I certainly did at our new house when we arrived lol.

We paid £400 for a deep clean of a five bed house (in London), was worth every penny than to have to do it ourselves!

Would hope your house doesn't need that much cleaning if it's been cleaned on a regular basis.... as in, surely once you've packed and the house is empty then all that's needed is a last hoover and damp dust?

Video it when you leave it and then if anyone says anything you have proof of how you left it. I routinely do this whenever renting a holiday cottage or an Air BnB after an attempt to charge me an extra £120 for cleaning of a property. I'm someone who leaves a place cleaner than I find it, usually.

Some years ago I rented a 1-bed property for six months while having renovations carried out on my home. It was literally a space to eat and sleep and I cleaned regularly throughout. At the three-month inspection the agent said she wouldn't have believed I'd been living there. At the end of the tenancy a friend and I cleaned the place to within an inch of its life and took detailed videos of each room. Every kitchen cupboard was was wiped inside and out, the tops of cupboards and architraves were washed clean, light fittings dusted and polished, the bathroom cabinet, the wardrobe, the windows – all cleaned inside and out.

The agent came round and wanted to know which cleaning company I'd used, because they'd done such a good job. I said I'd done it myself. For that I got billed £200 for a 'professional' clean. I presume that went straight into the agent's pocket.

I have some health issues, I'd like to focus what I can manage on moving and the new place and delegate making sure the old house is sorted to someone else. I don't think it's that unusual.

If it’s a sale then I’d expect to clean when I arrive. How are you going to clean if there’s boxes everywhere!! Save your money.

Bodgejobvendors · 05/06/2022 20:19

You are mad/ have a mad relationship with your mother. It doesn’t need an end of tenancy level clean.

Janamouse · 05/06/2022 21:01

I agree with the people saying don't get a professional clean. But take your point about your health challenges. Maybe just hire someone to do a couple of hours normal clean. Certainly don't get an end of tenancy clean. Save that for your new place so you benefit.

I left my old house totally spotless but then had to deal with a filthy new house so wished I'd just done a normal clean & saved my energy more for my new home. All the best for your sale & move.

No matter how clean you are, dust WILL fall out when the furniture is removed, unfortunately

I spent days cleaning when I sold my last place, efforts undone when movers came round! Next time I’d just quickly hoover on my way out … my buyers turned up armed with cleaning products and I think most people do.

I had the house I moved into professionally cleaned which cost £300

My relationship with my mother is a completely different thread entirely.
