Hiya, I've never had one before but want one to go on our new island behind our hob. Any recommendations? This is our forever kitchen so happy to splurge if needed. Thanks!

Bora is meant to be The Brand...

(I don’t have one myself as find them too loud)

Ah thanks, never heard of them so will get researching!

Bora are amazing but very expensive. Elica have been at the forefront of venting extraction so they do have a good reputation and considering the price definitely the best of the lower price range.

I'm not impressed by their effectiveness or noise.

What led you to want one?

I prefer the aesthetics of the downdraft over a big overhead one and the job is on the island.

The ones I've seen in showrooms and the ones in my friends' houses have all been much quieter than overheads and way more efficient - it's what persuaded me to go down that route. Even the filter venting hobs were impressive.

Perhaps it's worth taking the time to try and see some in action OP as it could be very brand/model dependent.

These Three Rooms seem to have a lot of good advice on these hobs.

I have the bora x pure as didn’t want any overhead in eye line
It’s great - you dont have to turn the extract part on of doing something small ! It makes some noise but not much - expensive but for me worth it

For me, the turn off with downdrafts is the fact that the motor is so close to (or literally within) my cooking zone. The noise is really in your face.

Wth a ceiling one, the noise is much further away. Distance makes a huge difference in noise levels. And you can now have some that are completely recessed within the ceiling, so there is really nothing in your line of sight.

I also didn’t like the bora hobs with a hole down the middle for the extractor. I think it ruins the aesthetics of an induction hob, which is that they provide a completely smooth and flat surface.

But completely understand that some people love them!
