Pocket doors (with pictures)

Anyone had pocket doors installed recently? How much did it cost? We have a small 3x2m extension on the end of our living room and will want to be able to close it off so it can be used as an office/ guest area (sofa bed).
Currently it's a bit of an old fashioned arch way.
I've read reviews of them being fiddly and prone to falling off their runners etc but we don't really have the space to have traditional double doors due to the swing space

You'd either have to have the wall taken down, and rebuilt with the pockets or install them on one or the other side of the wall.

I've got then between my lounge and playroom. Been in place around 12 years. 1 is fine, the other has some movement and I've never been able to get it right.
Overall I'm very pleased I went with them instead of normal doors as it frees up the wall on both sides.

Do you know if yours was a load bearing wall? I think this one is (we are due to complete soon so not had a builder round yet)

Mine was a new wall in an extension, so nothing there originally.

We have ones from Eclisse. One with clear glass and one with frosted glass. There are also some nice glass barn type doors on the Eclisse website which might suit you better

Ones like this would fit if it’s a load bearing wall

I wanted them in our new loft bathroom but we cant due to the way the pipework is going. Instead we are going for a door that folds back (like a bifold door). Might also be an option if pocket doors won't work for you?

Thanks for that link looks like wall mounted could be a good option and I guess easier to access if the runners are playing up

I did! I hate it. It gets stuck and can’t be repaired without massive changes to the whole wall. Plus air and sound pollution gets round it much more easily. Feels cheap and gimmicky despite costing a fortune.

I do not recommend pocket doors.

We have a pocket door which slides back behind shelving which covers the whole wall and I love it. Wouldn't necessarily like it if the doors were visible when it was open though

We have a fire proof, pocket door due to narrow hallway. It’s very solid and also needs painted as just finished renovation but here some pics.

A friend of mine has similar extension room, and their doorway is a bookcase they had especially built, that swings open.
They want to replace the latch on the side with a hidden book pull to make it more fun, having seen one on Sarah Beeny's new house programme in one of the boy's bedrooms, to access the en suite.
