Not happy with karndean flooring

I had my Karndean flooring laid a few days ago. I’ve also had kitchen fitters in, they covered the floor so they wouldn’t damage it and I didn’t really get a proper look at it until yesterday.
One of the tiles on the edge has
slipped back a bit so there is a gap that wasn’t there on Thursday. I then noticed other more minor gaps, also some of the tiles are slightly too high at the edges. I’m also not happy with the arrangement as there are very similar ones very close together.

Has anyone else had these issues? Did the floor need redoing?

That's not right. The flooring should be level and no gaps. When you mop, water will get between any gaps and cause more warping so it needs sorting. Mine's been down for 17yrs and there are two tiles that have now warped a bit but other than that its been fine.

Get the Karndean people to come back and repair it. It should still be under warranty.

I don’t know what you expect tbh. Karndean flooring is cheap vinyl flooring. Yes, the brand have done a great job marketing themselves as “luxury vinyl” but vinyl has never been and is not a high quality floor covering as it’s just a thick piece of plastic with a picture of wood or whatever printed on it. And it’s even lower quality than solid vinyl flooring as it’s in pieces called “tiles”

However, to address your immediate issues of some tiles moving/edges peeling and the pattern being too artificial looking. As it is in “tiles” you can have the offending ones easily pulled up and replaced. Hopefully you had some left over that you’ve stored for just this very common occurrence.

Ha ha - love the hate for Karndean on here! A thread like this never fails to attract it. So predictable.

OP - did you use a Karndean accredited fitter? I have Karndean downstairs - but some was fitted by an accredited fitter and some not, and you can really tell. Having said that, the difference is mainly about the surface (the non accredited fitter room is ever so slightly bumpy) but there are no gaps and no tiles lifting and it’s been down a good 5 years I guess. You definitely need it to be looked at. To be honest, it sounds like it might been to be redone.

Yes I do hate Karndean flooring. I think their prices are a scam. £16 sqm for printed plastic tiles? Rip off.

Have Karndean for four years in the kitchen, looks like new.

I looked at Kardean during the kitchen re-fit but plumped for ceramic tiles in the end. Have never regretted that but should have gone for granite over laminate worktops. We live and learn ....

We had karndean, must have been down 25 years in kitchen before looked tatty.

I bought the flooring from an authorised retailer, the same one I’ve been using for years. The other Karndean I have in the house looks great despite being 8/9 years old and in heavy traffic areas. I don’t regret getting Karndean but feel disappointed with the fit
this time. This time they sent a different fitter.

I went into the shop and showed photos, they are coming on Monday to have a look.

I do have left over tiles but if they haven’t fitted it properly or pattern matched it then surely they need to order more floor at their expense.

Mines been down for 17 years and the lounge and hallway look as good as new. The kitchen is also great apart from a couple of tiles that warped and were replaced. I doubt any other floor covering would look as good given the heavy footfall mines had. It's also used in hotels so I guess it is known to be hard wearing.

My Karndean is beautiful it looks like parquet flooring - the fitter was a perfectionist and several years on still looks great.

I deeply regret having karndean fitted. I fell for the hype or it being waterproof and much much much more hard wearing than laminate. It was done by a 'non-accredited/trained' fitter, and I have slight bumps where the screed is not perfectly level. When the light hits it, his hugely gives the game away of it ever imitating wood.
It is too dark for my liking (admittedly, I chose the colour/style) but it would have looked better had there been more variation and more of the lighter strips, as seen on the website. However, even if it was lighter, it is still 'flatter than flat'- no give in it, shiny and 'oily' looking...and like plastic. Because .....it is plastic.
