Help please. In the last couple of weeks only the LED light in my dining room which is wherre Iwork is super dim and getting worse. As you can't buy old style bulbs anymore does anyone know what the issue is and more importantly how I can fix it?

Is there any other type of bulb that uses a bayonet fitting that I can use? I've tried looking on Amazon but all there seems to be is more LED.

Thank you in advance anyone who can help.

Maybe you need an LED bulb with a higher lumens rating as that tells you how much light is emitted. And if you want brightness don't get warm white get daylight or cool white instead

Thank you for replying but I don't think it's that. I'm using the same type of bulbs that I always have and they just suddenly aren't bright enough.

I've also tried changing the actual bulb for one from a different pack ib case it was a rogue one but no luck.

I appreciate your help though 🙂

Could be an issue with power supply. If this is a standard light fitting that you put an LED bulb in, then the electronics are within the bulb. If you have recessed lighting, the electronics can be separate from the bulbs and this can fail. It may be worth having an electrician check the circuit.

You can still buy non-led bulbs btw. Check out Amazon.

Thank you for the advice, I think I might have to get an electrician out. Clearly not a quick fix.

Sounds like the problem is not with the bulbs. Check if the bulb works OK in light fittings elsewhere. It could be running dim because the circuit for your office room light is overloaded . Try switching off other things in the house and see if that makes a difference. That leaves the possibility of a problem with the light fitting itself or with your wiring. I'd want an electrician to check.

Thanks so much, it could be overload as my office desktop system is running in the same room. I'll try switching other things off and see if that's the problem. I guess if it is I will need an electrician to fix it anyway as I need my computer to work.
Thanks again for the advice.

Get a desk lamp?

Do you have dimmer switches, and nudged the button down? or smart lights and a setting has changed?

If you have a laser printer, turn it off when not in use. They can use a lot of power. A laptop will not use a lot of power.

CasperGutman · 04/06/2022 06:07

Running a computer in a room should most definitely not make the lights dim. Usually the sockets and lights are on separate circuits and each serves a big part of the house - e.g. all the lights on a certain floor. There would be no reason to expect any such "overload" issue to affect only the light which happens to be in that room.

In any case, a computer uses very little power compared to something like a kettle or an electric heater. I just don't think there is any credible possibility that the computer is causing this.

As you mention a bayonet fitting this sounds like an ordinary mains voltage pendant light, 220-240 volts. If that is the case, there won't be a separate transformer as you'd have with a low voltage lighting fixture.

If it lights up then I can't see the fault being with anything other than the bulb, or possibly a dodgy dimmer switch.

There are many different models of LED lights, some are dimmer, and some are brighter. It is best to buy a new LED light with a lot of brightness and enjoy it, haha.

I've just got some daylight LED bulbs, they're amazing.

DH is like a bat and likes to sit in darkness whereas I need good light to read.

It's pissed him off no end Grin

y the way, the light becomes dimmer since a light bulb or, for example, a led strip light burns out when it approaches the end of its lifespan. In any case, I suggest you check LED lights at Amazon -- I think you can find what you need there. I also suggest you buy LED lights from VOTE because they have low prices for their LED lights that are bright and of high quality. I hope my post will help ya.

Just in case any comes across this thread...all the suggestions did not get the OP to check the Dimmer switch....these dimmable switches can degrade in time and also if you move from incandescant bulbs to LED the power goting to the bulbs would be incorrect so you need to get a specific dimmable LED switch for the LED dimmable bulbs.
