Why can I get no hot water?

I posted yesterday so apologies to do a new thread but I have a better understanding now of what I’m looking at I think. So I have an unvented hot water cylinder / immersion heater, however despite being left on all night I’m not getting any hot water from it still. The switch next to it is on, I think this is all that’s necessary? Can anyone advise please? Please if anyone knows anyone who might know please ask, I’m losing it here 🤯🤯

Think pressure looks OK now. Definitely dont need it higher.

PigletJohn · 02/06/2022 10:21

Since you have not got a gas boiler, I think the pressure will be irrelevant.

Have you looked at your electricity meter?

peachmornings · 02/06/2022 10:26

@PigletJohn this is the meter, sorry I’m not sure what I’m looking for!

@PigletJohn I took the cover off one of the immersion heater things and this is what it looks like, shall I take the green cap thing off too if I can to see if there is a thermostat underneath? Or do you think I should just call a plumber

Call a plumber.

Under the green cap will be live electrical connections. These can be especially dangerous when they are adjacent to the earthed pipes and cylinder.

Please look at your electricity meter.

You are looking at the meter to see how much electricity is being used.

Yours probably has several registers and the buttons will scroll through them. Write the numbers down with date and time.

There is probably a flashing light or an indicator that tells you the speed of use. This will increase when you turn kn an electric kettle or immersion heater, the difference will be quite noticeable because they use 3kW each.

PigletJohn · 02/06/2022 10:39

I googled

Landis Gyr E470

But there seem to be several models

If you can identify yours, you will find online instructions on how to use the buttons and take the readings.

If you look at the webpage for your own electricity supplier it should have your exact model instructions

If it turns out to be broken then your sellers should pay for the fix. They will have signed a form to say the heating etc was in good working order. Let your solicitor know on Monday.

Have you tried pushing the safety buttons in on your thermostats for your elements? They will pop out if left on for too long so that they don’t boil the water and end up with someone evading themselves. You’ll need to turn them off at the switch and push the little switch/button type thing in with a screwdriver to reset it. It’s the little square bit labelled safety to the side of the red dial in your photo of the Green plastic end of the element. Safety cut out would explain why you seemingly have power to the elements but no actual heat being generated.

NoParticularPattern · 02/06/2022 17:46

Scalding themselves not evading 🙄. I really need an edit function!

Remainiac · 02/06/2022 17:50

We have a similar sort of system. When ours stopped producing hot water it was because the heating element needed to be replaced. It was an inexpensive fix. You need a plumber.

NoParticularPattern · 02/06/2022 17:50

Also I would suggest that the little red dial on the green bit probably wants turning up too. Mine is set to 4 (1 being the lowest, 5 being the highest) which I believe is about 50-60°C? Check both your elements since you’re fully electric rather than my dual fuel effort.
