Has anyone used Boxt? What’s the cheapest way to finance a new boiler?

Just that really.

Low income family, mostly reliant on disability benefits and limited savings. No boiler grants currently being offered anywhere.

Not sure whether to go with a monthly payment scheme with Boxt or whether to borrow money either through credit card money transfer or personal loan to finance a local gas safe person to install a new one?! Help!

Have you tried applying for a 0% credit card? That would be the cheapest option as no interest for the period (usually 12-24 months), if you could pay it off over that period of time?

We used boxt for dm's new boiler. She was very happy with the service and really recommends them.
No idea about the finance side though, sorry.

Thank you for the replies.

I do actually have a 0% option to make a money transfer on my credit card so I could use that however I’m reluctant to do that unless there are no other good options as I like to leave some of the available balance for emergencies- although you could argue needing a new boiler is an emergency…!

I don't know about the finance side, but I have been thoroughly impressed with Boxt

We used Boxt in our old house and will use them again when we need to. My parents also used them. They were quick and efficient and reasonably priced. No faults.

BOXT now offer a new boiler , complete with annual servicing and call out repairs fixed for five years for £37 per month.

Pretty good , seeing as I currently pay British Gas £ 22 per month just for homecare cover.

So for an extra £15 per month , we’ll get a new boiler and five year’s warranty, with servicing. No brainer really.

goingtotown · 18/11/2022 23:12

British Gas have 0% interest over 5 years on new boilers.

Dave20 · 20/11/2022 18:26

Yes but I think their boilers are still dearer than other companies.

Dave20 · 22/11/2022 19:18

Bump the thread. Our boiler was installed in 2009 apparently, we brought this house in 2017. Boiler works , we have British Gas homecare who’ve done a few repairs over the years.
Thinking of getting Boxt to replace boiler and brand new radiator. Costs will be just over 3 k for everything. Works out about £50 per month over 5 years on finance. British Gas also 0% finance but their boiler prices are still dearer- plus would cost more with them if we get new radiators.

Apparently and A rated boiler can save around £300 per year. So it could be worth replacing our boiler if we’re saving £30 a month, I know we’re obviously paying a bit more with financing the new one.

Anyone had a Boxt boiler? Have you saved money? Did you notice a difference with your energy bills?

Dave20 · 22/11/2022 20:59

Bump anyone

@Dave20 our boiler is finally showing it’s age so I looked up Boxt after I saw a TV ad. My only concern is that for the plan offered, we will be making payments for 10 years for a great package but the boiler remains the property of Boxt the whole time. That doesn’t sit well with me for some reason so I’m going to mull it over a little.

@hannahcolobus Yep, the small print mentions that in this case it’s a case of seeing if the new owner will take on your contract and if not, you’re looking at a potential early exit of contract where fees will apply.

It all looks good if you’re not planning to move but I’m just not sold on the boiler rental aspect. We’re on a service plan with Domestic and General and there’s some coverage there in the event the boiler fails. On balance I think we’re better off staying put and waiting things out.
