Siemens EH801FVB1E induction hob or Ikea?

We're in the process of getting our kitchen re-done and moving from a gas hob to an induction hob.

The above Siemens hob has great reviews. I like the fact that it has 5 zones. However, I'm a little concerned that there's no flexible or bridge function. At the same time, DH asks when would we really use it. I'm thinking that it will last us quite a few years so ideally we want as much flexibility as possible. I sometimes make gravy in the roasting tin on the hob so I'm not sure I'd be able to on this one. Is it something that people have found useful?

I've been looking around and Ikea seem to have a very reasonably priced induction hob with 5 zones and bridge function. However, I've no idea how good/reliable Ikea hobs are. Another advantage is that there's a 5 year warranty. It's a Which Best Buy but I can't find reviews

I have been looking at Neff but then prices start going up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also interested in feedback on Ikea induction hob please!

I've got the IKEA one. It's great. What is bridge function though? Didn't get round to actually reading the manual with all the ongoing renovations to do...

ExcusesExcuses · 04/07/2022 20:22

you're not comparing apples with apples. Ikea is cheap. Siemens is not.

RainbowSlaw · 04/07/2022 20:59

I have an IKEA also and have no complaints - it's quick, responsive, easy to use, easy to clean. Very pleased with it!
I have a smaller version though so no bridge function so can't comment on that.

I disagree with the post above about the IKEA ones being incomparable to Seimens - a number of the IKEA hobs are which best buys, and right up there with Neff, Siemens etc. I'd put a lot more on an independent review like that than just judging it on the brand name.

If you want a good bridge function then this is a good option: www.johnlewis.com/neff-t58fd20x0-80cm-induction-hob-black/p4435032

I wouldn’t choose a hob where all zones were flex zones as it’s inefficient and makes more noise when working (least noise comes when pan size and zone size are evenly matched).

I don’t think I would go for an ikea hob, though we do have their plug in portable version which has been good.

@mrs2cats there's not a HUGE difference in price between the Siemens & the Neff.

im not looking forward to choosing an induction hob. I vaguely remember I need to look at over all output & how much per region & something about how much heat loss happens if using all zones, but as you can see I'm a big vague about it a couple of years on.

I just can't face the whole kitchen replacement drama, it's been too long in the planning and I'm properly fed up with it.

I went for AEG in the end with hob2hood. I like the look of the IKEA ones though. My friend has the Neff and it’s really scratched badly in 12 months but my other friend had an AEG for 2 years that still looks line new. That’s what I based my decision on because essentially they all make stuff hot so really they’re much of a muchness. Oh and I wanted the fast boil thingy.

mrs2cats · 04/07/2022 22:49

Wow! A lot of movement here today.

In the end we bought a Neff 80 cm hob which was also a Which Best Buy. DH managed to get a good discount on it. I’m hoping now that it doesn’t scratch easily given comments above.

@WinterMusings , the kitchen replacement is such a nightmare. Admittedly we’ve had other work done as our kitchen is basically an extension of the garage and needed a new roof and some other work.
However, the ripping everything out, putting cabinets in, getting counters measured up….A month after it all started and we’re still waiting for the counters to be installed so the hob can be installed, the tap for the sink etc etc. New radiators are arriving tomorrow…I’m starting to see the end in sight but there’ll still be the flooring to do and the painting. It will be worth it but I certainly hope this lasts us now for many years as I can’t stand the thought of doing it again. The previous kitchen was 26 years old when we bought the house14 years ago. Certainly due a refurbishment and hopefully this one will last as long!

Glad you managed to choose one.

For future reference (Mumsnet posts often come up on internet searches) I have an Ikea induction hob and it's great. We bought it as a cheap replacement for a rubbish ceramic hob (hoping to do the kitchen at some point but that keeps getting pushed back!) but I love it.

Has the bridge function but I've never used it, has a boost function and has a timer so it can turn itself off. It wasn't the cheapest one they do but not was it the most expensive. I'd definitely buy another one and I'm normally a bit of a brand snob.

JRhone · 08/09/2022 12:46

Not sure if its still the case but some of the earlier IKEA induction hobs were actually AEG appliances unbranded. So the say they are IKEA therefore cheap and incomparable is nonsense.

DanielSkye · 19/09/2023 16:25

No IKEA has variety of price range. One of the induction hops are made in German.
BLIXTSNABB is made in german, the rumor is AEG rebranded. So don’t think all the ikea is cheap 😉

Fear not re your Neff hob, mine is 8 years old and still looks new unless you go looking for fine scratches. I have never, and I mean never, used any chemicals to clean it, just very hot water and an ecloth. Neff recommend their own cleaning cream, well they would wouldn't they?!
