Hi - Has anyone got an idea of what good plasterer would charge per hour/ day in Kent/Sussex area? Thanks

I don't think that's how it works...
If you are lucky enough to find a plasterer, you ask them for a quote.
Ask for and check references.
Then you swallow hard and pay up.
Hopefully they'll do a great job, in which case you thank your lucky stars
And tell everyone else about your find 😁

I would expect day rate of £250-£300 where I am in Kent.

I paid this last time I used a plasterer........ about 15 years ago...

Thanks all - he wants a day rate as job a bit fiddly and he doesn't want to quote as such. Just wondering what day rates tend to be so I am informed when we meet - internet search on checkatrade type forums seem to vary from 150 to 200£

we had our kitchen plastered last year and it was two days work £500 so £250 a day is about right

reluctantlogin · 29/05/2022 18:20

Thank you - that’s helpful

No chance getting them for 150-200 nowadays op. 250 to 300 is the normal I would suggest

We're in the Midlands and have just had a quote of £400 for 2 days work for replastering/skimming a bathroom.

Annalisehm · 30/05/2022 15:10

We have a man who charges £120 a day and we supply the plaster. X

Honestly take what you can get, I have been waiting months just for a quote, with lots saying they don't even want to quote (too busy). Check whether it includes materials.

XrayFish · 30/05/2022 15:24

What do you mean by a bit fidly? Each surface has to be done in one go so he should know how long it'll take, you can't just come back to it the next day. Unless there's a lot of prep work, or lots of small surfaces, or lots of layering, then fair enough.

We paid £250 but he was only here like 5 hours. There is also a lot of legitimate sitting and waiting, so be prepared for that if you're paying per day.

North West here. Paid 500 quid for 2 days work, about 18 months ago. There were 2 of them.

Can't give a figure but would be very wary of someone who is only wanting to quote using hourly/daily rate. Any decent tradesperson should quote for the job, not time, otherwise they don't have any incentive to work quickly and it could cost you lots more. If it's a tricky job, they quote accordingly!

We were quoted £400 for a job which would have taken a day at most by the only person who had availability before September . He didn't show up. Plasterers are like hen's teeth here- Home Counties. We had to do it ourselves!

I've used three different plasterers in zone 2, south east London in the past year.
Each time it was for a day's work.

The rates were: £200 a day, £200 a day + £20 for materials; and £400.

The first two were sole-traders I found on a local forum. The third more expensive was a small company where three different people came over on the day, but only one of them did the work and it didn't take him any longer than the sole trader who was half the price. So I wouldn't use them again.

The sole traders can be booked up 4-6 weeks in advance but then again you can get lucky and find they're going through a quiet patch and available within the week.

One of the plasterers did explain to me why plasterers' minimum fee will always be their day rate, unlike an electrician or a plumber who will typically charge per task.

It's because it doesn't take them much less time to plaster a small patch, than to do an entire wall. The amount of time it takes for the plaster to set before they can smooth it down is always the same. It's not like they could do a small patch in just an hour then go off to another job.

Andy6969 · 04/04/2023 20:06

You'd be surprised how many people say it will only take you an hr when asking me to quote for jobs, like you say whether it's a small bit or full wall it still takes roughly 3 hrs from start to finish, just means more time sat about waiting for the plaster to go off
