Device for locking window ajar

UPVC windows. What I think is called a goose neck closing mechanism. No key/lock mechanism in place, just a handle. They are either open or closed, they don't have the wee slot that allows you to leave them ajar but secure. Is there thing I can buy that would enable me to leave them ajar?

Yes I got one from Amazon - there are lots

Superb! I must be using the wrong search term, any clues?

We bought a plastic covered steel cord that you attach to the window and frame, which allows the window to be opened and left open safely. It has a key to secure it.

@Namechangeforthis88 try window open lock, this is what I get when I searched that on Amazon. Not sure which one would work in your situation in terms of just ventilation or securing it so a child isn't at risk etc

I get it, I thought you had to have a key/lock closure, I see now, you just attach it to whatever frame. Thanks everyone!

put in window restrictor lock

Hallyup89 · 29/05/2022 21:24

We have these type on our windows.

www.amazon.co.uk/Window-Restrictor-Hook-Safety-Handed/dp/B00D9190BM/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?crid=2CD1WYMUG9G9B&keywords=window+restrictor&qid=1653855699&sprefix=window+re%2Caps%2C102&sr=8-12

You have to pull the window towards you and push on the catch to open the window fully. Impossible from the outside and very difficult for a young child to open.

Are you sure there isn't a mechanism to shut the window partially son there is still air getting in OP? The reason I say this is that I had a glazing person out to fit window restrictors when my soon was small. We'd been in the house three years but hadn't realised there was a way to partially close the window. He was able to show us and saved us the expense of having restrictors fitted.

Apologies - terrible typos from me! 😁

I'm sure they can't be locked ajar, they're quite old. It's more about burglars than child safety. I'll take a closer look at people's suggestions and get an order in.
