What can I use to patch a leak under my kitchen sink until the plumber arrives?

Will regular Gorilla tape do it? Bathroom sealant...?

Try Gorilla tape.
Bathroom sealant only adheres to dry surfaces.
Gorilla tape seems to stick to anything.
There is a specific tape for wet surfaces but can't remember what it is!

It depends what is leaking. Can you see what it is?
if you can see a leaking joint you could undo and repair using ptfe tape.

Can't find an Edit button, so I'm adding this here: the area that's leaking is the seal between the plughole and the drain pipe.

We used this
www.screwfix.com/p/self-amalgamating-rubber-tape-black-3m-x-25mm/2115v

But there are a multitude of other waterproof leak repair tapes out there. Gorilla tape might work. Depends how long the plumber is going to be

Put a plastic takeaway tupperware under the leaking joint?

RA1802 · 27/05/2022 12:40

Thanks, everyone, for the (very speedy!) suggestions. I've got some Gorilla tape in, so I'll give that a go.

Put a bucket under it. Tape might help, but still leak a bit - so you'll want a bucket under it anyway.

And clear the cupboard coz they'll need access and it's probably filthy already from the leak?

PigletJohn · 27/05/2022 16:03

A photograph would help a lot.

Is there a big white plastic nut holding the joint together? Put on a pair of rubber gloves for grip and try to tighten it.

Is there a screw in the middle of the plughole? Can you tighten it?

CasperGutman · 27/05/2022 22:43

Honestly, if you're just trying to stem the leak while you wait for the plumber, can't you just put something underneath to catch the drips? Of if it's really bad, just avoid using the sink - keep a washing up bowl in there, and empty it somewhere else when it fills up.

If you wind a load of sticky tape round everything you'll just make the plumber's job more difficult.

You need Milliput - known as plumbers mate. It’s like plasticine, not expensive and works a treat. Our local DIY shop sells it.

You need plumber’s mait. It’s a sort of sealing putty.
