Best and final offers (home counties)

All the agents I've spoken to say house sales are going to best and final offers in 10 days or less at the moment.
None are willing to say how much over asking price is the winner.
I still don't know how to negotiate my divorce settlement, so it would be really useful to know how much more than asking price you need to pay.

I know of a few this year - several at £375,000 went for about £395,000, £425,000 houses going for approximately £450-455,000 (sometimes higher) and a £600,000 one went for £690,000. It's not always the highest bid which wins though and it's all about your position so if you are chain free but not the highest bidder, you're still in with a chance. Good luck!

I think the problem is it's a 'how long is a piece of string' question, some people may be desperate to secure a property and go way over asking, some may be more reserved. It depends on the property, the level of competition etc

I know someone who paid 30% over asking (but REALLY wanted the house), others who have paid 5/10% and some that have pretty much paid asking as their best and final

What sort of property are you looking at? When we were buying (admittedly not in home counties), it was standard for properties to go 10-12% in the 600-800K range. The offer we had accepted was 10% over.
